Count this as a Justice and Wilbanks messageboard exclusive, as this is the first place I'm pleased to announce this bit of news. I just signed the contract and dropped it back into the mail.

Skullvines Press will be releasing in 2008 or 9,my chapbook entitled "Into the Cruel Sea." It's my 15K word teenage monster story set in Bermuda, in 1983. Basically, about an abused 17 year old girl who has to choose between her father who beats her and her murderous boyfriend (who has turned into a Mer-Man!). Because it's going to be short 80-90 page chap, it's only going to be available exclusively through Skullvine's website.

Holy Crap. Great news, Rich. Is this related in any way to the story with my counterpart in it?

Mark, I originally proposed to pair that murderous plant story with the longer one. And the original manuscripts had that story tacked onto the end. And the guys at Skullvines originally liked it, but they liked the longer one much, much more. They said they didn't want to dilute the effect of the long story and its ending and wanted to put it out by itself. You know, that has a certain logic to it, so I'm back to sending "Mark Justin's" story again.

It's ultimately related because of the setting and time period, but ITCS, like a lot of the stories I'm writing about Bermuda, is a little entity unto itself.

Sounds cool. I like monsters, I liked my visits to Burmuda, and I was a basically teenager myself in 1983.

Sorry to bump this old thread up. I just wanted to share the cover with you guys.... It's by Mark McLaughlin. The book is still in the editting phase, but it looks like it might be out 2008, as opposed to 2009....

The chapbook has been bumped up, in terms of its place on the publication roster. There's no date certain, other than it's "Next." That pretty much means over the next couple of months. Currently, it's in the editting process, and I'll post the date certain when I know.
