I have a problem with my left ear in particular and when I go to concerts it really seems to penetrate my left ear, sometimes to the point that I feel dizzy.

'Too loud' can really ruin a gig, though

One recent, splendid example - during the Wall concert they played Comfortably Numb. Epic guitar solo in that song, yes? Well, on this occasion, not so much, because it was cranked so loud all we could hear was szhhhh szhhhhh szhhhhhh. It was that physical we were eating the notes up off the shaking floor. Last time I checked, we're supposed to listen to music, not chew through it.

Okay, that's my ancient person's stick-waving rant done for the day

Last concert I went to was the 20th Anniversary of Rust in Peace. Sound system sucked balls. Haven't gone to a concert at that venue since. A lot of my friends have quit going there because of that problem. Really sad thing is, my favorite bands play there.

One thing I've noticed. When I was a teen I used to listen to music via a player in my bedroom. I was a captive audience because I couldn't haul my record player around with me. I'd look at the album cover while listening, read the names of the tracks and go through the lyrics (if they were included). Over and over until I'd memorized everything.

Cut to playing cds in the truck (I'm still not itunes capable) - I'm doing something else (driving) while listening. The tracks are Track 1, Track 2 etc. I suppose I could study the the cd literature but I don't. I just jam the disc in the player and off I go. I have no clue about the track names of recent albums. And I hardly ever look up lyrics.

And it's weird, I can't remember anyone's birthday and yet I can sing along to Bowie's Rock n Roll Suicide from start to finish.
