Took my chinese mid-term last night. Got an email from the professor saying that the results were up. I got a C.

I may actually pass this class.

Can't study with her singing. It's so bad that Shelley is at my feet whining. And now she is on FB trying to pick a fight with her mom.

No. Drunk singing woman was on FB trying to pick a fight with her mom. Shelley was trying to cover her ears to block out the sound. And drunk woman has passed out.

Unfortunately, I am still married to her. Good news is that prior to her getting drunk she agreed to get a new place that is about $300 cheaper. Not as large as the place we currently live in, but it will give us a chance to save up and finally break up.

When I was in my teens/early twenties, I used to read about authors 'turning in their manuscripts'. I had some whimsical notion of works of art, piled neatly in a column of white pages, fresh off the typewriter, sent off to the hallowed publisher via the postman (therefore enabling the writer to wipe their hands of it and go on to the next fabulous idea), whereupon a frenzied team of editors and copy editors would descend on the thing, adjust a few words here and there, and voila!

It's one of the reasons I never thought I could do this. Nothing work of art or neat about me.

Cut to present day. The writing of it. The doubt. The continual back and forth. The endless editing before it got anywhere close to a publisher. The evaluation and critiques. The fight with the ego, the eating of humble pie followed by more fucking editing. Thngs I thought were cool, but really were not. The realization that it wasn't a pristine pile of papers but a lump of clay that I had to mould again and again until I got so frustrated that I rolled up the metaphorical son of a bitch and beat my head to a pulp with it, over and over and over.

Fuck.

Anyway. Manuscript is 'turned in'. It's covered in blood and brains, but it's in.

I just had to chastise a friend over his lack of "christian values" because what he has been posting since Obama won has nothing to do with christianity. He has bought into the entire conspiracy mindset that Obama is a muslim, communist, atheist who is coming for our guns, freedom of speech, and our wallets while sending us to FEMA run deathcamps. Etc...He went from one of teh sanest guys I knew to this.

The more I know...

Jen broke down yesterday. Had to call the suicide hotline. Ended up not sending her to the psych ward. Did, on the other hand, get her and her dad to agree on seeking family counseling. Which means she will be moving back to Tennessee to get some kind of resolution about her family. It will also mean that she can tell her job to go get fucked. If she had gone in to the hospital last night she would automatically be given two weeks of unpaid vacation. And that's with a doctor's note. She's been trying to get help her, but if she tries to change her hours, they will change her from full time to part time and loses the insurance she has through them.

It sounds bad, but she needs to go home and she needs to quit her job. She'll be a lot happier doing both.

Crazy writers club meeting this evening. Lots of anger, defensiveness, and pent up frustration let loose. Of course I didn't help matters any and may even inadvertently have been the ignition. I became frustrated by one members negativity over every single piece this evening, and yes, including mine. It wasn't that he had an objection to it, it was his attitude and the lack of specific's that set me off. The final straw for me was his statement that the way I described a door opening didn't work for him.

Then the retired priest in the group went off on this long and at times unintelligible diatribe about being interrupted at our last meeting, and something about midgets.

The strange thing is that we had this young lady come and sit in to see if she wanted to join the group. After all the yelling and tempers flailing, I was very embarrassed. I asked her after the meeting if she was coming back and she looked over at me, smiled, and then said she wouldn't miss it for the world.

Oh well, with one exception, they all loved my submission.
