Has anyone else seen a film called 'The Loved Ones'?
Made me think the writers were Edward Lee fans.
I thought it was pretty good and worth a watch
SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's an Australian Horror (2008) about a Father/Daughter who are somewhat odd and they kidnap boys that the daughter is obsessed with. They then proceed to torment them and then bore a huge hole in their head with a drill, and rather than fuck them (HEADER), pour boiling water into their brains and keep them in the cellar.
Not a bad flick. It was shown during the Fright Fest Season on channel 4 in UK. I don't know if it was un-cut or edited, but what they did show was quite graphic for UK TV who normally edit films to death.

It was my favorite film of the year a few years back. I was incredibly hesitant watching it because it looked and sounded like just another lame "torture porn" crapfest. Suffice it to say, I was so not prepared for the emotional punch the film packs, nor the way the story plays out. Absolutely outstanding work and one hell of a debut feature for the director. It's really frustrating and unfortunate that a brilliant piece of genre filmmaking like this gets delayed endlessly, then dumped onto VOD/DVD/BD while insufferable garbage like THE APPARITION gets to play in thousands of theaters.

What I also loved about this film was the fact that they had made (Or I think they had) made the choice to go for quality actors/acting over looks, I liked how his girlfriend was just an everyday looking girl, big budget american horror would have gone for female cast that have just walked out of playboy mansion.
Elvira, brings back good memories. Have both the movies on dvd. She is a heroine. Am saving money to get me a tattoo of her on my upper arm. Ultimate Pin-up Girl.
Elvira as a tattoo? THAT'S dedication! She's cool even to this day. I remember decades ago when a buddy of mine was leaving Maryland to go to college in West Virginia, he had, literally, a duffelbag full of men's mags like Playboy, Oui, Gallery, etc. He let me root through it and I found several issues of Cavalier (which contained Man with a Belly, the Cat From Hell, and several others by Stephen King. And unless I'm mistake, wasn't there a few "King" stories way back then when King used a pen name (Jonathan Swithen?) I'm pretty sure some of those were in the sack, and also a story in Cavalier or Nugget by Dennis Etchison. Anyway, my point is, unless I'm terribly mistaken, the bag also contained an issue of Gallery that had a spread of Cassandra Peterson before she became Elvira. She was blond!
If I have time today, I'm going to order Loved Ones. It was mentioned by several people quite favorably at Killer Con.

Unless I'm mistaken, Peterson has always been a blonde and wears a black wig for her Elvira character. Definitely an icon- I've seen pics of her on the wall of more than one friends' place before.

I just watched this movie. I got it out of the Redbox. Very twisted film. One of the best films I've seen in a long time. Very well done. I'd buy this one. Even my wife liked it. Highly recommend it.
I finally got this from Netflix and finished watching it tonight. Very cool movie ... a lot of brutal stuff in it (more than could realistically happen to somebody's feet and them still even be able to stand up, much less walk, but it's a movie ... gotta suspend your disbelief a little anyway, right?).
I'm following it up with Beyond the Black Rainbow ... this is insane! Hypnotic atmosphere that will probably annoy a lot of people, but a real joy for the more adventurous. Like an early Cronenberg movie channeled through an acid trip or something.
I'm still blown away by how good this movie was. The Aussies really know how to make a horror movie (Wolf Creek, The Descent, now The Loved Ones. Anyone know of any others?) Anyway, I plan on buying this on dvd, but I saw there was a rated and unrated. (The one in the Redbox is Rated R.) Does anyone know what the differences are? I can't find anything out about it. Thanks.
I watched it a few weeks ago!!! I loved it! Def.twisted, but really well done twisted!!! I like how they drill holes in peoples head and fill it with some kind of liquid to give them a labatomy!!! Great movie...hot chicks too! Australia put out some great horror!!! Especially the late 70s, 80, stuff!!!
