Hey everyone,
Hey everyone,
For all of you horror fans out there, Ed Lee's "Slither" is coming to audiobook via Audible.com, iTunes, and Amazon! It will be released at some point this week so stay tuned!
"The trichinosis worm is one of nature’s most revolting parasites. Certain types of this tiny worm alter a host’s DNA by injecting a virus which mutates the reproductive system. This forces the host to bear the worm’s young. Typically these worms are never longer than a few millimeters. But guess what? Now there’s a subspecies that’s thirty feet long... When Nora and her team arrive at the island, she expects a routine zoological excursion...but it doesn’t take her long to realize they’re not alone. Are her lurid sexual dreams making her paranoid...or is she being watched? The dead bodies they find are bad enough, but then her own team members begin to disappear, and when they return, they’ve...changed. Indeed, there are other people on the island...along with something else far worse."
Andy: that's very cool that you've been contracted to do an audio reading for Slither. However, I wasn't aware of this release. Did you do the reading for Dorchester? I'd appreciate knowing.

Ed,
Thanks for responding (I didn't know you were actually on this site...I'm brand new to it). I did my recording from my studio in Newport, RI for Audio Realms. It should be out by this weekend or the middle of next week (Audible/ACX doesn't give very specific times for their releases). Also, I'm in the middle of narrating "Flesh Gothic" at the moment so look for that one in the near future. I hope you enjoy them! As a huge fan of Creepshow, etc. growing up I really have a blast narrating your books. Keep up the gory work my man.
Is there any update on this? I've been checking Audible weekly and have not seen anything (or any audiobook from Ed except book 3 of the Infernal series).
Secondary question: Have there been ANY Edward Lee audiobooks? I've seen old whispers about them, but I've never been able to find, much less purchase, ANY of the great stories that I've read. I've even seen that The Bighead might have been done at one time, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. So the question stands: Does anyone have or know of a place where Edward Lee audiobooks can be found?

Sorry for the delay, but there was some production issue with a specific sound segment, so it's being cleaned up and will be out shortly. Unfortunately, I don't have an exact date, but I finished everything on my narration end so it shouldn't be much of a wait! I'll be sure to let you know. Thanks for being patient.
As to your second question, I'm currently narrating Flesh Gothic, but I'm unaware if any other of Ed's books have been turned into audiobooks.
Andy: I"m thrilled that these books are being done in audio but, wow, it's news to me. Dorchester won't respond to my inquiries and I've recently taken steps to take my rights back for all of those books. I better find out about this. I at least hope that you're being paid 'cos I haven't received a dime from Dorchester in going on 2 years!

Ed, is Dorchester the publisher? I'm not working with/through them. I'm doing it via Audio Realms (although that might be part of Dorchester, but I'm not sure). I did get paid for the work so not to worry. I had a lot of fun doing "Slither" (and I have to say the twist at the end caught me off guard) but I'm having more fun doing "Flesh Gothic" for the simple fact that the characters are even more flawed so I get to be a little more evil and conniving. I'll let you know when "Slither" hits but it shouldn't be more than one more week I'm guessing since it's in QA with ACX at the moment.
Glad to hear all this Andy. My 2 hour-ish commute daily means audio is in, written word is out. Frankly, I've probably got over 600 books in my actual "library"; probably have literally 2000+ more digital books from all of the downloads over the years. With 2 midgets and a 3rd on the way, I just can't read everything I'd like. Listening to books helps, and I hope to see more of Ed's work in audiobook form.
The narrator really DOES make all the difference. I've stopped listening to several books I paid good money for just because I couldn't stand whoever it was reading it.

Well I hope you enjoy my take on Ed's stuff. As a huge fan of Romero, Savini, and King growing up (specifically Creepshow) I really enjoy Ed's mindset and style. I have a few other audiobooks out, but they're not horror genre (one Civil War-era historical fiction and one Western). If you want to check them out, visit the site! www.andymackvoice.com. Best of luck with that long commute!
Sounds good, Andy. Keep us updated on when Audible actually has the titles for release. I get two credits a month currently, but I've got a stack of audiobooks to go... at least I don't have another one I'm expecting to want until June. Any chance you've got a sample chapter out there? I'd freakin' love it, and you just might convince some people who aren't sure about audiobooks to give it a try once they've heard it.

With due respect to Andy, but shouldn't the actual author of these awesome novels be the FIRST one to know about this? I mean, this audiobook company seems poised to make a profit off of someone else's hard work and he never knew about it? Smells fishy to me...unless I am totally missing something here...
Flah, if you read Ed's note above, you can see that Dorchester isn't communicating with him. It's not a stretch for me to believe that they're trying to make a quick buck without passing it along to our Mr. Lee.
Yeah, it appears Leisure pulled some serious jive in order to keep ripping authors off for as long as possible before beating feet. Can't tell you how many times I got letters from them assuring me that royalties and advances would resume once their restructuring was finalized. "Payments are forthcoming and will be made as funds become available." Um-hmm. Based on their own royalty statments, they owe me at least six grand that I know I'll never see. But. thank God, the same time Leisure was pulling this highbrow move, my Deadite and Kindle sales took off, so I'm in great shape (and I'm particularly grateful to Necro, Deadite, and Bloodletting for this, plus Bartek in Poland and Frankin Germany.).
As for the audios. I've got no problem signing my audio rights to Andy's company. I just need to hear from them! (I love the idea of people listening to an Ed Lee audio book on their way to work!)

Hey everyone, so just to clarify (or at least attempt to) the situation with Ed seemingly being left out in the cold. Here's how it works on my end. All of us narrators use a site called Audible Creation Exchange (www.acx.com) where producers and talent can browse each other's stuff and potentially hook up to work on an audiobook. I saw Ed's "Slither" was available for narration from a company named Audio Realms (www.audiorealms.com) so I sent in an audition and the producers selected me to narrate the book. Unfortunately I've never heard of Dorchester Publishing and I have no idea if they are/are not affiliated with Audio Realms. It is my understanding that Ed will (and rightfully should) be getting some sort of royalties for his work...as will I based on sales. I hope that sort of clears up any confusion that may exist about all of this. Basically I just happened upon the book browsing ACX, auditioned, and was awarded the opportunity to narrate.
As for the release of "Slither", the technical issue they were having with production levels has apparently been solved and it was sent back to ACX for a final recheck and distribution a few days ago. ACX's final check usually takes 1-2 weeks depending on how many projects they have on their plate at a given time. I'll let everyone know if I hear anything else, but hopefully it won't be much longer! I wish I could expedite the process but if it's any consolation, I should be done narrating "Flesh Gothic" by the end of this coming week so that will be out in probably 3-4 weeks!

Ok everyone, sometimes the site even surprises me. I just got an email today stating that "Slither" just went live (on sale) on Audible.com. It will also go live on iTunes and Amazon, but that might take a day or two. I've posted the link below. Enjoy and please, if you like it, take a second to rate and/or review it so it! That will get Ed some more exposure and it doesn't hurt for me either. Many thanks for the interest in the book and now it's on to finishing "Flesh Gothic".
It's currently uploading to my phone as I type this. I can't listen at work, and need to finish "The Last Mailman" on my lunch hour, but as soon as I hit the road for the one hour+ commute, IT'S ON!
Great so far; seems in chapter 8 there was some background interference, but only in that one. Could have been my phone too, but it didn't sound like it. It's great hearing Ed's work on audio for once... Now, if I can just find that copy of The Bighead too...

Glad to hear you're enjoying it Jeff. Unfortunately even I haven't had the chance to listen to the final (post-prod) version of it so I can't say if the background interference is on my end or if it may have been your phone. No offense, but hopefully it's your phone! Either way, I appreciate you picking up a copy and hopefully you'll enjoy the rest and spread the word. Thanks again. Now time to continue with "Flesh Gothic"...

Hey everyone, I'll make a new post once the date gets closer, but I just finished recording "Flesh Gothic" and it's on its way to post production. That process (and the subsequent upload to ACX/Audible with Quality check) usually takes several weeks, but I wanted you all to know that it is on its way! Like I said, I'll post again when I hear more information and/or learn of a release date. Thanks, Andy
PS Since I'm still somewhat new to the horror scene, can you recommend any other blogs, sites, message boards, etc. where I could post links/info so other Lee fans would be able to see that "Slither" is out there?
Grrrr!! Why didn't you tell me before I used my two credits for the month on the re-do's of Star Wars Zahn Trilogy (2 & 3 were also released on Tuesday)?! Now I've got to pay extra for it! Oh, well, Ed's work is worth it, and Andy's sample on Audible sounds great too.
