No I didn't notice that. You think I'm reaching back somehow and bringing them out? Because I sure as hell don't know where they come from. I will tell you one thing, I have horror dreams almost every single night. Usually I just go with them, but sometimes they just terrify me to the point of waking.

Had my first creative writing class last night. Not sure how much I like the teacher. She is older and a poet. In her words she is big in England. Not so much in North America. She rambles a bit but I did catch bits of useful information. Our first assignment was to write a haiku. Here is mine:

Mind wrecked by fervour
hot urgent whispers from God
Cities ground to dust

Since I had time I wrote another:

She cast no shadows
small malicious men cast stones
heavy rope stretched taut

The other intriguing thing is one of the other students is a young lady with a university degree in creative writing who is currently writing a horror novel. She is quite attractive to boot.

We're both married; get your minds out of the gutter.

Good luck with it and keep updating us on your progress, she sounds interesting, I mean the course sounds interesting, not the girl writing the horror novel.

JD - very cool. I wouldn't even know where to begin with a haiku and both of those gave me a good 'snapshot' of a scene.

My creative writing teacher in college was a bitter unpublished author and thought that everything we did could never be as good as what she had done. It was awful!

I still have the class project we did - the cover was a crying baby (clip art) but I can't remember what we called it - it was a subtle diss of the instructor.

I liked your haikus JD.

They are good! Haiku's are my favorite form of poetry.

A couple of other interesting/funny things from the night. One of the students introduced herself as a "lesbian witch." When she mentioned how hard it would be for her to sit down and write a book the teacher asked her why doesn't she cast a spell.

Anothe student is an older lady from Louisiana. We were studying a haiku and the teacher asked us what comes to mind when we hear the word frog and the lady from Louisiana yelled out, "good eatin'!"

Nice job with the haikus, Chris. To me, poetry has always been something you can do right away or not at all. Like lostcase, give me the girl from Nantucket anytime.
