Dear Mr Publisher..........
It really makes me sad to see so many Publishers going out of Business. I Simply don't understand Why you did not learn From the Music Industry's Mistake. The Music Industry Refused and Ignored the masses wants for Digital Music. The decided to continue to Release the music in non digital format and Charge to much money for there Product. The Fans of Music Revolted. They released the music in digital format, shared it with others and Refused to buy any more of the over priced music format the record company's continued to produce.
I hate to see any company go Under, I hate to see people loose there job. Its sad there is now so much music the fans will never get to hear. That same issue has now arrived in the publishing world. IMHO more and more authors will Self Publish. They will along with other authors not only offer there work in a Format the fans want, They will make it affordable. They may even offer there own work along with a Few Select authors on there own website. The Few Select authors will offer the authors book on there website so the consumer can purchase it with a few clicks.
The Publisher and the Author's are upset with Piracy. Yet they won't address that very issue. As an Example, Blake Crouch, an amazing author, puts all his stuff out in Digital format and Charges 3 bucks for most his stuff. Because he self publishes it, His Profit is 2 bucks or a bit more for every book sold. Most fans will agree, Why download it when you can buy it for such a cheep price. Mr Crouch will offer some of his work for free, Then offer a Place to buy even more of his stuff at a really inexpensive price.
One thing you don't think you understand. Once a book is released by fans in digital format, No matter how hard you try, Its out there for good. You can remove it from some sites, But by then its to late. Its on IRC. Its always gonna be there. People offer it on IRC and can download it for free any time you wish. The Genie is Out of the Bottle, There is no putting it back. People can request a book, Someone will check IRC, Find it, Bring it down and offer it from an number of free file lockers you can find all over the net. Megaupload being one of countless.
Using the Book Bullet through your face. To this day, No ebook format. Fans can not buy it. But they can sure find it for free in ebook format. This latest release. Why in the world are you not offering it in a format the masses want? The hard core fans will purchase the hard back edition and gladly pay 50 bucks for it. No format for the masses? IMHO you need to wake up. Because if you are unwilling to give the fans what they want. The fans will give the fans what they want. Its time to change your strategy.
IMHO I find it most frustrating, A fan can take a book and put in ebook format in 2 Days. That baffles me. A fan can release a book in digital format in 2 days time no problem, Yet the Publisher is still doing nothing to give the masses what they want. If this latest release is Good. I give it a week and it will be out there for the fans. Why not beat them to the Punch and put it out yourself. Offer it at a reasonable price? Stop the Piracy, Stop the Stealing, Let the fans have what they want. I mean really come on its common sense stuff. Thats my 2 cents.

I forgot to add. I hope most realize that Piracy is not about sharing and being a nice person. Its about making money. Every time someone downloads a file from the Pirate, The Pirate makes money. I have talked to a few that make so much, They quit there day job.
Now with this current release of Witch Water. You can say oh it will be in digital format in 6 months or a year. Um hello !!! You just helped Mr. Pirate make more money. People cant buy it, So they have no choice to Get it from Mr. Pirate. The files are so small. It takes no time, And Mr Pirate is counting his money. So many are simply afraid to talk about this subject. IMHO its time to talk about it. I mean Come on. Its gonna take you 6 months or a Year for the New Release, When someone else can have it done in 2 days. Using nothing but a scanner and computer. Come on wake up.
I don't understand why Publishers have not gone and Said, Hey why are People stealing my work, How can I stop it. Its like they wanna keep there head in the sand and hope it goes away. Ya know, In the end, Do what you want. Continue down your path. There will always be people more than happy to take the Money you could be making and put it in there bank account. You wanna wait 6 months or a year to release a digital format. Well ok. Someone will be more than happy to do that for ya, and make money. IMHO the only people the publisher should be upset with is himself.
As a fan of reading, I will tell you Flatt out. I would much rather Pay you the Publisher, Or Mr Lee than be forced to get it elsewhere. I will Gladly Pay Not only 3 Bucks for Mr. Crouch latest release, I will Go buy all his other stuff as well. I mean come on. Its only 3 dollars. See my Point?

Hi Tym, I’m the head editor of Deadite Press (an imprint of Eraserhead Press and also the publisher many Lee paperbacks including Bullet Through Your Face) so I guess I’m one of the people being addressed in these posts.
Ebooks right now account for roughly 8 to 11 percent of the industry profits. That average is true for Eraserhead/Deadite. We didn’t lose that profit from physical copies but gained in from new people becoming readers with this new technology. Personally, I think anything that gets people reading is great. I have a kindle and love it.
Why can’t we just release every book as an ebook right away? There are a couple reasons for that:
1: Who owns the rights. Sometimes we can only TPB rights and another company owns the erights. Sometimes the company releasing the hardback doesn’t want an ebook until a year later (that happened with another author once). Sometimes just figuring out who actually owns the rights to a book is a nightmare in itself.
2: Time. Eraserhead/Deadite Press is a six person operation. We have a back catalog of more than two hundred books and release about 50 to 80 titles a year. Everybody involved works around 60 to 80 hours a week. Quite frankly, we just don’t have enough time to get everything done that we’d like to. We’re trying to get our back catalog out in eformat but it takes time to come up with a nice ebook and we, as a company, focus on physical editions. Have patience, hopefully we’re get the books you want out.
3: Sometimes the author doesn’t want an ebook. Believe it or not, this to sometimes happens. Not all authors want every one of their books in e format. They can have a variety of reasons for this and we, as their publisher, respect their decision.
There’s one misconceptions that I would like to address from your posts.
“Every time someone downloads a file from the Pirate, The Pirate makes money. I have talked to a few that make so much, they quit there day job.”
Not remotely true. Those people were fucking with you. The reason bootleg downloading is so popular is because it’s free. No one is making any money (at least none of the uploaders/downloaders are). If you’re paying for illegal downloading, you’re doing it wrong.
Unless you’re talking about people that put ebooks up on Amazon or Smashwords without the rights. Those people are just douche bags and not really related to piracy.
I can tell you are passionate about this matter. While it may not seem it at times, believe me, every publisher and writer out there is, quite frankly, way more passionate about it than you. That’s why we work in this industry. It’s for the love of books and stories. Believe me, if I wanted to get rich, I wouldn’t be a writer or a publisher.
Thanks for your input. I hope this clears up some of your questions.

There are plans in place for ebooks in other formats but at this time, the kindle and the nook are the two biggest ereaders so we are choosing to focus on them. In the future you will see more formats. This simply comes down to an issue of time like I mentioned before.
