Title: Appalachian Holiday Hauntings

Publication date: November 1, 2009

Word count: 1000 to 3000 words

Pay: three-cents per word plus contributor copy (one-cent per word on reprints)

Format: Attached RTF or Word Document file. (do not copy and paste into email body)

No simultaneous or multiple submissions

No explicit language or sexual content (this project will be in regional school systems)

Deadline: September 1, 2009 (do not inquire on status of submission until after this date)

We are looking for traditional Christmas ghost stories set in the Appalachian region. Think Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol with an Appalachian backdrop. However, given this example, we want to make sure you understand that stories may be set in any time frame, including the present.

We are not interested in tales that disrespect or alter the religious aspects of the holiday.

Hey congratulations, Mark. Sounds like a cool anthology to be editing. I remember in jr. high I used to check out a book of ghost stories that they claimed were true and set in the Appalachian Mountains. I no longer remember the title but the story I remember the most from it was about a pair of ghostly hands that would materialize and take over the wheel of any vehicle traveling through one of the mountain passes. Good luck with the book!

If I can think of a good enough idea I will. I haven't written anything in several months though. I've always wanted to write a Christmas themed horror story but to date I've never sucessfully pulled it off. I'll kick it around in my mind and see if what comes out.

Wow! Just wow! One of the coolest covers I've seen. Who's the artist?

Congratulations on editing this one, sounds like a cool project. I'm glad Michael Knost is doing so well with Woodland, I was sad when his online magazine (Noctem Aeternus, if I'm not mistaken) was closed after only one issue.

I'd love to submit something, but I know nothing about the Aps
