Have you read any H. P. Lovecraft before? Read The Call of Cthulhu (an absolute classic) and all will be clear

Thank you very much, I mentioned to my wife I have heard of "the call of cthulhu" before but I didnt know who wrote it. All I know is it was a metallica song off the "ride the lightning album" Thanks again. I will by some lovekraft.

Without knowledge of Lovecraft's fiction the last reveal in the novella will ring hollow for most folks. You'll still enjoy the story but if you know Lovecraft, that final page will send chills up your spine.

I immediately ordered the lovecraft book but then I found the writing on the internet and read it before the book came in. I enjoyed the story without the lovecraft knowledge but now it make so much sense. The first thing that came to me was the violent and depraved actions of the "red sect". Their motive was unknown to me, but not now. What a clever story and a cool way to tribute something to HP Lovecraft. I will be reading more of his work as well. Thank asimmons for your help and Ed for your response. I am just starting flesh gothic and I have the messenger ready to be next. I just read Jack Ketchums "Red". Another great story.

Over the christmas break I read Triage, of which 'In The Year of our Lord:2202' was a part. This was my first taste of Mr. Lee's work, and I must say it wont be my last. Great read that flowed very well.
Can anyone suggest more of Edward Lee's work in a similar vein?

Well. You have much to look foward to. However, to my mind there isn't much like that story!!
What do you like about the story? The science fiction aspects? There is a tidbit of SF to much of Mr. Lee's work, although the primary genre is horror. Yeah, pretty much horror!
In the last 4 years we have become very fortunate in being able to find Edward Lee books anywhere. Leisure publications has a number of his novels in paperback.
The two most SF of Lee's work are THE STICKMEN and OPERATOR "B". I think both of those are expensive and rare.
If you want to explain a bit more about your reading tastes we could direct you better. The story you read isn't too normal an Edward Lee story. Otherwise just pick up paperback edition of anything Lee writes and see how you like it!!

The Infernal series is actually a good place to start, for his horror work anyway. As disturbing and at times grotesque as it can be, it is not as graphic as some (The Bighead) and much more graphic than others ("Portrait of the Psychopath as a Young Woman" and "Brides of the Impaler"). The Infernal series is my favorite of Mr. Lee's work that I have read so far. I admit I have many more titles to read of Mr. Lee's ("Golem", "Header", "Creeker", "Monstrosity", "Coven", "Shifters", "Messenger", "Incubi", "Succubi", "The Backwoods", ...) holy shit, I have been pretty relaxed on my reading lately, and apparently I need to start on some of Lovecraft's work. Feel's like I have read alot of Edward Lee's work but apparently I have only read a small portion and thankfully I have a lot to look forward to.

S.Howard: thanks much for the kind words. It's true I don't rite much sci-fi, however, you might dig my Infernal books 'cos there's a lot of "occult" science involved. Many years ago, I wrote a tech sci-fi piece called "The Decortication Technician" that appeared in m USHERS collection. I later sold it to a website--can't remember which one!--but perhaps it's still lurking around out there on the Information super highway. Thanks for your support!

Scott: I hope you dig City Infernal--that's one I like a lot. (The other day I got another surprise royalty check for it, which made my day!) In a month or two I'll be starting my novel tentatively entitled THE SIXTUS, which is, in a sense, Part 4 of my City saga. I'm geared up!
