I know Black Train is a toned down edition of Gast. You write the most gory stories possible. Do you have problems with the publishers that want less gore and violence ? Your novels published in Mass paperbacks are somewhat less heavy i notice. How do yo feel under that ?
Do you cencor yourself : iow have you written books or stories that you tought were over the edge ? Would love to read stories like that LOL
DGL: very rarely have I been asked to cut stuff from my books (in Creekers I had to cut a scene, which I immediatley placed in The Bighead! and in "The Baby" the publisher asked me to remove some details on a scene; since then, though, the Deadite collection was released containing the uncut scene.) In actuality, it's the overall personality of the book (as well as the nature of the characters) that dictates whether or not the project will be hardcore or not. Gast, for instance, is much better hardcore for my cult/limited edition fans, while as much asI love the kinky scenes in it, the toned down version as Black Train is much more palatable for mass market. It's never been a matter of grossing things up just for the sake of grossness, because when a writer does that, the reader can tell instantly because of instead of the passages being grotesquely intriguing, they're boring! There really is an art to writing effective hardcore, and I hope I'm not losing my edge!
