She got attacked by a chipmunk while trying to save it. The damn thing bit her last evening. She first went to an Urgent Care facility today but they then sent her off to the E.R. after looking at the wound. She just had three rabies shots and needs to have more in the next couple of weeks. She's taking this like the trooper she is and brushing it all off as if it's nothing, but we all know it was the result of a heroic act. Super Nanci - Saint Nanci - she would dismiss these monikers as silly, but we, in the depths of our hearts, know them to be accurate.

Get well soon Nanci, and please don't get rabies.

Geez guys, I'm not dying or anything. I got bit while trying to rescue a chipmun... erm black bear from the outdoor cat we take care of. The chipmun... erm black bear, nipped my finger. When I went to get a tetanus shot booster, they told me that I had to get rabies shots just in case. They have a real problem with rabies up here. I got the first four shots today along with the tetanus shot and I have to get three more over the course of the next two weeks.

Are you sure it wasn't the chipmunk that didn't need to get the rabies shot?

I have to admit I was initially worried. I'd read somewhere getting rabies shots wasn't particularly pleasant. Good to know this isn't the case (aside from getting stuck with the needle of course).

I thought they cut the number of shots down and that you no longer had to get it in your stomach.

I went out to feed my fox this morning. (He's queer for stale oatmeal cookies.) As he emerged from the brush, I suddenly thought of poor Nanci and the chipmunk... and took a giant step backwards. You never saw a fox look so insulted in your life.

Stop. You'll have me in tears. I miss my ducks! We no longer live in the mill. (The ruins of the old house were finally torn down just a few days ago. The upside is that the property is being donated to the state park that surrounds it. It will end up -- get this -- a duck pond.) We now live on top of a wooded hill or -- as I sometimes suspect -- a dormant volcano. (My luck.) This place was built by the family who owned the Titanic -- not a great reference for flood survivors -- for their driver. Of course, these days if you build a house for your chauffeur, it causes talk. Probably it did then too.
