Well, Sgt. Peppers was an answer to Pet Sounds, not the other way around. I loved and still do love Pet Sounds. The sound on that album was just as gorgeous and ground breaking as the songs themselves. Caroline No, God Only Knows, I Wasn't Made For These Times, Here Today, Sloop John B., Wouldn't It Be Nice....what's not to love on this album?
I watched the documentary a few years ago about Brian Wilson making Smile, which was one of the great rumored but unmade albums. Wilson talked a little about the Beach Boys and Pet Sounds. If I remember correctly, he wanted to explore and go further than the sound and style of that album but Mike Love (and maybe Al Jardine) didn't want to do that because it didn't sound like The Beach Boys. They liked the sound they had and what they did with it. The infighting didn't help Wilson's mental problems or drug use.
If you get a chance to see the documentary on Smile, do so. I found it fascinating.

The story I've read a couple times (and who knows if it's true) is that Pet Sounds is a response to Rubber Soul and Sgt. Peppers is a response to Pet Sounds (I think right before the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Reprise you can hear various animal noises).
Pet Sounds is an amazing album and The Beach Boys are probably the band I most listen to after The Beatles. I missed a Beach Boys concert a month or so ago in Toronto and I will never forgive myself for that.

I saw this when it was on one of the pay channels. I love Wilson and am glad that Smile finally came out (in a couple versions). Now if he'd only release or re-record some of his other lost classics.
Lots of oldies music - I've been inspired reading Christine by Stephen King.
One of my favorites mentioned in the book is "Last Kiss" by J. Frank Wilson & the Cavaliers. No offense to Pearl Jam, whose cover was pretty good, but I'll take this version.
Bwa - hahahahahahahahaha! Music for the Zombie Apocalypse...
Artist: The Buoys
Song title: "Timothy" Artist or Group: The Buoys (writer: Rupert Holmes)
"Trapped in a mine that had caved in And everyone knows the only ones left Were Joe and me and Tim When they broke through to pull us free The only ones left to tell the tale Were Joe and me
Timothy, Timothy, where on earth did you go? Timothy, Timothy, God why don't I know?
Hungry as hell no food to eat And Joe said that he would sell his soul For just a piece of meat Water enough to drink for two And Joe said to me, "I'll have a swig And then there's some for you."
Timothy, Timothy, Joe was looking at you Timothy, Timothy, God what did we do?
I must have blacked out just around then 'Cause the very next thing that I could see Was the light of the day again My stomach was full as it could be And nobody ever got around To finding Timothy
Timothy, Timothy, where on earth did you go? Timothy, Timothy, God why don't I know?
Timothy..."

There are times when, I don't know, when you're distracted and you're not really listening and there's stuff/crap going on with your life and you're unable to pay the same attention as you once did and you hear a song on the radio and you think hey that's..... but then weeks go by and you never hear it again and pretty soon you forget and it's gone.
Thankfully, there's a ocean of back catalogue stuff out there and you can dive in and grab what you missed. Jim Kerr, I've always loved the sound of your voice:
I've been on a real kick lately listening to rock bands with female vocalists. Not sure why - I think I'm just digging something a little different from the traditional raspy male vocals.
One band I just found out about is Ankor. They're from Spain, and I've found getting their first album from 2006 is nigh impossible without spending about 40 bucks. They have a new album coming out this coming Tuesday, so we'll see how hard it is to get that one.
Here's a link to the song/music video that's been stuck in my head the past few days, "Completely Frozen." Enjoy the eye candy, guys.
However, due to her accent, I wasn't getting all the lyrics. I found their official lyric video, and holy crap, for a song that's so catchy, it is freakin' dark. The music video makes much more sense after seeing all the lyrics as well. I'd recommend the lyric video as well.
Just bought two new albums yesterday, and am greatly enjoying both of them. And really, how can you not like an album which features a song titled, "Battle Dancing Unicorns With Glitter"?
