Well I got through the audiobook in only 4 days which for me is unheard of (it takes me forever to finish audiobooks) so that definitely says something about it. The book was a true pageturner and for that I like it a lot. It was really suspenseful. On the down side, -------SPOILERS-------------- the whole Sci-Fi element near the end really felt out of place. I remember halfway through the book I kept thinking, please don't go there, plese don't go there, and in the end that's where they went. Also, I don't know if it was the audio version (the narration was really good) but I couldn't stand Milo. Maybe if Koontz had shown throughout the novel some of the things which Milo was capable of it wouldn't have felt so out of place. The last sequence in the house with the mother (which was a really sinister image) and the conspiracy, kind of brought a bit of sense to the premise which till then sounded absurd (psycho critic with god-like powers stalking writer). However the way the villain is disposed of felt like deus ex machina. --------END SPOILERS ----------- In any case I really enjoyed it and look forward to Breathless in November. Till then I have quite a few Koontz novels on the shelf (Bad Place, Starngers, Hideaway, By the Light of the Moon) and the ipod (Your Heart Belongs to Me, The House of Thunder) which I want to pick up. |

Nope, unabridged version (don't like to get abridged, reason why I haven't bought the Straw Men audiobooks). I recall some mention of some of Milo's trials and how his father kept asking about "The Time Machine" and the "Extraterrestrial Communicator" (something like that), but still, SPOILER resolving a thriller by turning back time felt out of place, even though I saw it coming... What did you think of this bit in particular? The time rewind I mean... END SPOILER |
