This isn't really aimed at Scott Bradley in particular, but everybody on the board. The challenge: I'm mister cheap skate who prefers to wait for everything in Mass Market Paper back. A loony position, sure, but I can't keep myself well read at collector or hard back prices, now can I? She here is my challege. Why should I read Joe Hill's new novel. Please, give me specific reasons. Not a -- honestly, no offense meant, mark -- a Mark Justice-Tony the Tiger "what-a-GRRRRRRREAT writer!" exclamation. Other responses I'm not interested in reading is "He's going to be an industry standard, one day, so you need this hardback for collectability." This is what I want to know: What makes it a good read. So good, in fact, that I should just plunk down the extra money and buy it now as opposed to waiting for the MMPB. If you think it's heart rending--why? Horrifyin--why? So on. |

Well, to piggy-back on the audio books thread, Audible.com currently has a $7.49 special. The way they run is that you pay for one download a month, normally $15, and get to choose just about any audio book you want. Right now they have a special where the first three months are $7.49 per month (goes back to $15 after three months). And they have Heart-Shaped Box. So you can sign up and download it for $7.49. I've got my April credit and I'm deciding between Heart-Shaped Box, Lisey's Story, and Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. It's damn good deal if you enjoy listening to books as well as reading them. |

I've got toom uch to read right now as it is, so I think it will be a pretty long time before I get around to trying him out. I've still got another 200 pages to read in The Horror Club and I have already decided on the next two novels (I don't own either of them yet but they should be here by the time I'm ready for them) I plan to read after that. As slow as I read, it will be late summer at the earliest before I have a spot again for another novel. |
