Well. Well. It's been a long time since I've visited these hallowed halls and I remembered I needed to stop by and let you all know that I am, in fact, still very much alive and vigorously working on a new manuscript. Some of you may know this from my Facebook comments. But in case you don't here's the what's what:
Kingdom of the Pearl Dawn is a dark fantasy/mystery/ghost story, set in an alternate contemporary Chinese city. But this isn't China as we know it. There's no electricity, steam powered vehicles ride rails from one end of the city to the other, minor magic is used on a daily basis and the emperor is planning to wipe out all Easterners, known as Nobreeds.
Henry Smith, is one of those Easterners, who comes across the body of a dead woman run through with a pitchfork and left in an abandoned house. If that wasn't trouble enough, the woman's ghost asks him to save her by rescuing her from the City of Ghosts so that she can seek revenge against whoever killed her. Should he go? What happens of he doesn't? Will the woman's ghost haunt him until he agrees? And if he does go to the City of Ghosts, how will he find her and get back out to the land of the living?
Sounds like the back cover copy. Hm. Any way, I'm done with the first draft, coming in at 390 pages, and have started revisions, rewrites and edits and hope to find an agent in the next couple of months. I'm very excited about this project and have ideas for the next few books with the same characters, Henry Smith and Jing Wei, the dead woman (no, she's not a zombie).
The others news is that I'm working with Necon E-Books to get my first two novels out as e-books. More on that as time goes by.
Gary . . .
