I finished the Bighead. I didn't know whether to laugh or gag. It reminded me of the original Last House Of The Left. When I was watching it, I thought to myself "What more can these people do"? Well, Dicky and Balls never seemed to run into boredom, that's for sure. This book is chockful of depravity, sex, and EXTREME hardcore violence (AKA-Everything you would want in an Edward lee Novel.) My only complaint would be the ending, when you learn the origin of The Bighead. It makes me want to hunt down the other version, just to see how much it differs. However, the prices for that are just a bit much right now. Maybe I'll come across one later on that's a bit less expensive. Anyway, now I'm onto The Minotauress. More Edward Lee goodness and more adventures with Dicky and Balls. |

Yep, The Bighead is a classic. I have the softcover trade edition of the original. I'm thinking about selling it. I bought it for $40 on Ebay through Bad Moon books. If anyone's interested, message me. |

I have a question for Mr.Lee if he ever reads this. Why? The book was so strongly written, but the ending. I just don't get it. Anyone that has read this book should know what I'm talking about. The ending seemed to come out of nowhere and really lost me. Not that it was not a great book, I just felt it was a bit odd. |

jwar: the whole story went like this: Necro simply didn't like my original ending, which I did like. Just a matter of taste. So I changed it for Necro, but then years later Overlook wanted to do the original ending. I think the "meat" of the book, however, exists in its characters, especially Dicky and Balls. The screenplay insisted on the Overlook ending. Oh, well, it's all a matter of interpretation! But thanks for your interest! You should get a kick out of upcoming projects. Edward Lee |

The Bighead was my first non Mass Market published Ed Lee book I purchased, and I'm glad it was my first-it certainly isn't my last either, since I just got The House and The Minotauress today hah. But damn, when I read it, it revived my inner obsession with rednecks and backwoods horror all over again-which probably isn't good, since I'm not all that far from West Virginia...haha. I'm going to reread it though soon, because I read it on 0 hours of sleep in the middle of the night and I don't think I absorbed it as I should have. I need to read it again when I'm wide awake. ![]() |

Not sure exactly when yet (and I'm not allowed to say who's publishing it yet) but I suspect it'll be in the fall or winter. I can't WAIT for folks to read this! Edward Lee |

Just ordered this from amazon (Ed's preferred version)! Can't wait to get into "the grossest book ever written." I discovered Lee two years ago when I found a copy of Infernal Angel at Books-A-Million. The great thing about discovering a new favorite author 20+ years into his career is you instantly have a long backlist of books you can order. No having to wait around for his next work. The only hard part is deciding which book to read next (and coming up with the scratch to buy them). |

I just finished this one and I feel uneasy and "dirty on the inside" just the way you're supposed to after a proper Ed story. In other words, I loved it. This excerpt had me ![]() Great stuff. |

just finished this.... and HOLY SMOKES! some of the biggest gross out scenes ever!!! AWESOME! But so gross, that I need to read something happy now... maybe some comic books or something. haha. I do have a question though, and I'm not sure if it's all ready been asked but yeah... SPOILER ALERT. is the Father Alexander in Bighead the same as from the Infernal series? |

"Dirty inside" is a WONDERFUL compliment! And, indeed, I liked Alexander so much, I had to use him again, even though he's dead. In fact, his spirit maybe be seen again... Edward Lee |

Wow, what a book, just finished this Beast. Loved how the different stories came together throughout the book. I know I have read lots about another Bighead book is that idea still on the table? Would love to read the alternative version! |

There will down the road be a story or novella entitled The Bighead's Autopsy, but I've got so much on the burners right now, it'll likely be quite a while before I can get to it. Thanks very much for your support and kind words! Best, Edward Lee |

I finished the Overlook edition last night and, boy, was that a fun read! I thought I'd figured out what was going on in the story part way through, but it still managed to pull a few punches. I loved the ending, and everything else about it too despite finding sci-fi a bit of a turn off. But now I'm really curious about the ending in the Necro version. I wonder, would anyone who's read both be kind enough to pm me a brief summary of the alternate? I can't really justify buying another copy of the book. Thanks! ![]() |

I loved this too. Slight spoiler ahead: Only thing I didn't like, and it's a tiny thing, was when Balls died and he kind of transformed into a demon. I preferred him as just a dirty sick redneck. |

OK, now I'm confused.... WHICH of the 2 endings was what Ed originally wanted? I've got the ebook version and the newer hardback version. STOP READING IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS: 1) Alien-spawn or 2) Demon-spawn? Both/either work, but I actually prefer the demon-spawn personally. But.... I can't say the alien angle hurts the story; I just prefer keeping with the whole Catholic motif since we had Father Alexander the whole time. |

I read the Overlook version, which is the author's preferred and has the Alien spawn ending. If I hadn't read either before having a choice of demon or alien ending, demon would win every time (I just don't like sci-fi), but I thought the ending worked and I thoroughly enjoyed it. |

I would LOVE to see this one re-released through Deadite. It would be awesome to see this book re-introduced to a wider audience. I mean come on, EVERYONE needs to read this book at LEAST once in their life. It's that damn good. |

Yes, the alien version was the original version but Necro didn't like it so I rewrote it (thinking 'Wow, if I don't change this ending, then the world will never receive the pleasure of reading the colostomy bag scene'), and since then MANY people have told me that they prefer the Necro ending too, and looking back on it now, I agree. (Damn, did I write that book almost 20 years ago? Fudge! I'm gettin' old!) And as for Balls turning into a demon, I think we modulate our disbelief and consider several subjectivities. Was Balls REALLY a demon or was his physical body merely the vessel for one? Now, if this is the case, and the perfectly plausible occult sciences are properly regarded, can we not instead cogitate that the "demon" was simply "subcarnated" through the various machinations of the Devil? In other words, is it not feasible that we can meditate the possibility that the thing that LOOKS and SOUNDS like Balls is nothing more than a diabolical clone or a tactile and visual hallucination perpetrated by the Forces of Darkness? Indeed, it may well be that the real Balls Conner is still alive to this day... Edward Lee . |
