Howdy Ed, I have a quick question about The Pig.... I recently bought the Necro trade of The Pig/The House (Both of which were fucking fantastic by the way!). I was talking to Brian Keene and J.F. Gonzalez about it and they mentioned something about it being a rewritten version of the story. They said the original was far more graphic. I was just wondering, why the rewrite? Is the original version a lot different than the one I have? And finally, which version is printed in Sex, Drugs, and Power Tools? Thanks, -Mike Lombardo |

I thought THE PIG was the same in all three editions so far. INSIDE THE WORKS was first. Then SEX, DRUGS AND POWER TOOLS, Then THE PIG AND THE HOUSE (trade pb called THE HOUSE) Is there a more graphic version? Wow. I hope this ain't just happy talk. Let's get this out! |

Keene told me that once as well. If it's true, I've got some book hunting to do. |

No, no, Brian must be confusing The Pig with something else. Nothing was cut content-wise, though I may have tightened up a few passages here and there--over 10 year elapsed between the first and third printing. the only thing I changed--a faux pax on my part--but as I recall in the first printing INSIDE THE WORKS, and possibly the S,D,PT printing, the house that THE PIG tookplace is was somewhere in Pennsylvania, and in THE PIG/THE HOUSE printing I had to change it to upstate New York in order to corroborate data in several other "Vinchetti" tales--HEADER 2, included. There was no gore cut, unless some Edward Lee doppelganger did it! Best, Edward Lee |

Thanks for the clarification! I'll have to slap Brian and J.F. next time I hang out with them for making me paranoid about having a censored version of the story! The Pig was fucking awesome, I love the whacked out direction the story takes in the second half, very unexpected and very cool. The House was a really cool haunted house story. I liked the subtle weirdness with him being called Leonard and such, very creepy and very effective! My only gripe is that I wish it had more of the red stuff, then again it did have Shake-a-Pudding and that was pretty damn foul! |

I actually like THE HOUSE more than THE PIG. (I'm obsessed with "house" devices!) In HEADER 2 the grandson of Vinchetti from THE PIG is on a tear in redneckland. I suspect anyone who digs my psycho Vinchetti mob stuff will dig HEADER 2. (I finished the book yesterday, btw--80,000 word plus novel! Now I'm line-editing it and sometimes...getting quesy!) Later! Hell yeah! I loved reading about the fucked up stuff those mob boys did in The Pig and The House! My personal favorite was sealing the guy in a steel drum and letting it sit in the sun for a week! I loved the similar demise in Family Tradition, fucking sick! Bring on the sickest mob hijiinks you got Ed, we can handle them! |

I'll have to read the Pig. I've heard it's the most disgusting book around. If it's more obscene than Minotauress it must be something special. |
