Post subject: | Hey Lee |
Heading to the great Pacific Northwest for vacation in May. Yep, your old stomping grounds. We are researching where to go and what to do. We have discovered Powell's City of Books in Portland. I about blew my load when I read about this place! You ever been there? We are staying in Seattle for a couple of days as well. Any suggestions? We will be in the area for 2 weeks, and have the cliche' tourist spots marked down, but want to find a few undiscovered gems. Appreciate any input. Bob |

No, I've never been to ORegon, and, fo rsome reason, I can't recall any dynamite bookstores in Seattle, save for B. Brown's Books in North Seattle, but I don't know if he's still in the area. He had great limited-edition stuff. As for food, there's a killer seafood restaurant called Elliot's on the waterfront--they have tons of different kinds of oysters. If possible, go to the International District and find a big oriental supermarket called Yajimya or something like that. One of the best seafood markets I've been too. Find some way to buy a live Dungeness crab and cook it yourself (boil for 15 minutes, then take it out of the pot and let it sit top-side down for ten. It's the best crab. If you can't do that, look for Spot Shrimp in a restaurant; they're superior shrimp you can't get on the east coast. Seriously, the seafood in Seattle blows Florida away. On 45th in the U-District, there's a bar called the Blue Moon where Jack Keroac (cant' remember how to spell his name) got drunk in a few times, so I made sure to get drunk there myself a few times. Have fun! Best, Lee |

Thanks, Lee! We will add all recommendations to our 'to-do' list. My girlfriend is a huge Kerouac fan - actually, she really admires the beat writers as a whole - so she stated that we have to do Blue Moon. OT - anything coming up from you as far as appearances here in Florida? Would love to meet up and buy you that drink I failed to do last time. Later. |

Nothing official as of yet, but if you don't mind coming over this way, there's this bar in Largo called Wild Willy's where either the owner or manager, plus some patrons are fans of my stuff. The date's not locked yet, but it looks like my girlfriend and I will be there on March 3rd. If there's any chance you can make it, drop me an email in a few weeks, and I'll have the definite date and direction. Later! Edward Lee |

I just told my girlfriend I'm going, and she says, "oh, no (with sympathy). The 3rd is my sister's birthday. We're all going to the Magic game." Damn. I'll see what I can do. I would love to come over, share a drink or 3 with you and your gal, and hang. Bob |

Lee, been thinking. Let me know the difinitive date and time. I will see if I can get over there during the day by taking a day off of work. The PO won't go out of business one day without me. |

I'll do that for sure. And if you can't make it, there'll probably be others time, too. Later! Edward Lee |

Portland may quite possibly be the greatest city on Earth. Make sure you check out Ground Kontrol, a bar/two-story classic arcade. |
