Awesome news. I just finished Brides of the Impaler and loved it, by the way. So is Gast the very next Leisure title, or will there be something between Brides and Gast? |

That's awesome Ed. Congrats! Can't wait for all 3 to hit the shelves. Although I already have (and love) Gast, I'm still thrilled it's getting released into the mass market. It's makes me happy to see that you have a lot going on, because that means more books for me to buy and read. Good luck with everything man. |

Ed, That is great news, man! The upcoming, future works sound awesome, too. I have a few suggestions for the Gast title: Inn of the Damned Damnation House The Crimson Inn Of Blood & Sin Hell Manse Best I could come up with right now, Ed, but if I think of anything else, I will post it... Chris |

Wow, that is good news. I'd like to see more of the small press stuff tweaked with new additions for the mass market. How will the short story, Trolley No. 1852, be distributed? Magazine, anthology? darkthrone. |

Great news, Lee! For a Gast title, all I can think of is Gastly. Heh, and it just adds your name, pronunciation-wise. Pegleg |

Is "The Sixtus" the story about Lovecraft in Hell or is that another story you were mentioning? Either way, congratulations. |

Post subject: | Re: CONTRACT RENEWED! |
xrascalxkingx: The Sixtus is my using the major concept of The Senary and doing it novel length; actually, it will be Poe in Hell instead of Lovecraft, and much more subplotteed than the latter. I can't wait! Darkthrone: I suspect Trolley No. 1852 will be a chapbook/short novella from Bloodletting Press. Got no idea of a pub date yet, of course, but I'll keep you all posted. so far, the story is kicking ass! Thanks! Edward Lee |

Having just received Darkness on the Edge of Town, the first release by Infernal House, I can say I have never been so excited as I am to see them publish Haunter at the Threshold as their second book. DOTEOT is one of the most beautiful books I've ever seen. It puts Cemetery Dance's equally priced lettered editions to shame and is so generously illustrated you really have to see it to believe it. Lee has also said that Haunter will probably never be published again because of its...content. Can it surpass The Bighead as the sickest book ever written? We shall see. |

Hey Eedvard! Happy renewals! How about changing "Gast" to "Gas, plus Tea"? We're all a little concerned about gas these days, so maybe just casual commuter types will be attracted to a title that includes this staple commodity in it? |

It's always a shame when novels have to be toned down for mass-market. No matter how revolting or horrifying a scene may be, it was put into the story for a reason. Ah well, if that is the price that must be paid... |

That's great news. I am even more excited to know that you are going back to hell. Sounds strange, I know, but I am certain you know what I mean. Any how, The Infernal series is by far my favorite books and stoked to know that you are willing to go back into this world. Thank you for your continued participation to my entertainment. Hope you all had a great New Year. |

As for the new Gast title, here are my suggestions: Just South of the Railroad The Lost Railroad Curses of the Traveling Train Southern Hospitality A Gastly Train Ride Meh, those popped into my head. |

Black Train isn't bad. A little generic but not bad. It is just tough for me to think that the operation that published Charlee Jacob's HAUNTER as a paperback original would cut anything out of any book!! Mind-boggling! ![]() Happy to hear you got another shit storm heading our way!! We have been doing hock parties here at the house. Lotsa fun........ |

Post subject: | Re: CONTRACT RENEWED! |
I read HAUNTER before I read the longer version published by Delirium as SOMA. It is part of their "Dark Essentials" series of hardcover reprints of paperback originals. As is usual with this type of republication the editor wants to give the reader some additional content. SOMA seems to be substantially longer but not any more gruesome. I find HAUNTER to be a bit better read because I don't see the extra material helping in a huge way. I am happy it's there, however. The more Charlee the better. As long as we are on this "reissue" subject for a moment this might be the point to ask Mr. Edward Lee about the two endings for BIGHEAD!!!! What's up, Ed? I always found it hard to believe you and David Barnett having plot issues! I figured it was a bit of a ploy of Overlook's to give alternate content an airing and also to give people reasons to want to own both editions. I have both, by the way. My Overlook edition is trade paperback. I suppose if I was a real collector I would get that one in HC also........... |

Post subject: | Re: CONTRACT RENEWED! |
when I finished the first version of BIGHEAD, I'd written it with a sci-fi-ish ending, which was my preference, but Dave wanted me to change it to occult, so I said no problem and did it. Keep in mind, this was just when my name was being tested in the small-press/collector's market. I was just happy to have the book published 'cos I didn't think in a million years anyone would publish it. I'm glad I was wrong. I believe, BIGHEAD was my first novel-length hardcover. Years later, Overlook asked about doing a reprint with the original ending, and since the first edition was long out of print, that worked for me. The difference between the two endings is purely conceptual, not terribly mechanical. When BIGHEAD was optioned for film, they wanted to script the second ending, and I was even allowed to tweak the script. Now, if they could just get financing! I am happy to report that the option is about to be renewed. But thanks for your interest. There'll never be a novel-length sequel to BIGHEAD but, as I've been harping about for years, I will one day write a follow-up story called BIGHEAD'S AUTOPSY. I put the putline in an envelope and taped it inside my front door, to remind me to get cracking on it--it's still there! Been there for 5 years!--but whenever it looks like I'll have time, something else comes my way. I'll likely do it someday, however. Take care! Edward Lee |

I am a huge fan of the SF elements of your books! COVEN is great. So is SLITHER. For whatever unknowable reasons I totally buy into SF plot developments and "gods" while normal horror beasties make me say WTF!! Edward Lee's first hardcover novel was THE BIGHEAD in 1997 with a 100 copy run (400 tpb). It was pre-dated by the novella GOON co-written by John Pelan in 1996 with a 52 copy HC run. INSIDE THE WORKS featuring THE PIG was also in 1997 with 100 HCs. SHIFTERS with Pelan in 1997 also. I like THE MINOTAURESS' use of a couple happenin dudes from THE BIGHEAD. A little ruckin. Oh yeah! |

Thanks, all, for the good wishes. However, HArvester is right: an option doesn't mean there'll definitely be a film sale. Please feel free to resort to sorcery, astrology, wood-knocking, voodoo, or chant invocations from the Necronomicon to prompt some supernatural assistance regarding finanacing and the attachment of a director! Best, Edward Lee PS--if I recalled the script correctly, I do have one line in a cameo... |
