Last night, in bed, I started 'Flesh Gothic'. I had read a few of Lee's novels before, but was absolutely blown away by the scene directly following the prologue. You see the blurb 'stomach-churning' on a lot of horror novels, but my stomach had never churned like that...EVER! Thank you, Mr. Lee, for writing some great horror and proving that I haven't become completely desensitized. I'm still a little disturbed by it, which is a magnificent sign, and can't wait to continue on. |

I'll share a similar story from my own experience with Edward Lee. My first exposure to the work of Mr. Lee was "The Messenger" and I remember vividly being affected by the unfortunate tale recounted by Belinda to her father. I must confess that got to me. Now I have read much of his "hardcore" stuff and I wonder how I ever could have been so young. |

I finished up Flesh Gothic about a week ago. To me, it takes something like Rosemary's Baby and then ramps it up to where it should have been in the first place. I'm a slow reader, but it always amazes me that I can read a 400 page Lee book in a week where 400 pages by nearly anyone else would take me a month. Definitely one of my favs from the Leisure output. |
