Post subject: | New to Lee and have a few questions |
Hey all, I just recently discovered the wonderful gruesome joy that is the writing of Edward Lee. I have managed to get my hands on the Goon, City Infernal, and the Piece of Paper. I am looking forward to reading more, but first I have a couple questions: 1: On the official website the publishing history only goes up to 2005. Is there a more complete bibliography out there? What has Lee published in the last two years? 2: I loved Lee's story in "Excitable Boys" and I understand that the Vinchetti Mob is a recurring concept/character. I know the story "The Pig" features this mob, but what are the other stories the Vinchetti Mob appears in? 3: I know what novels (mass market and small press) I'm interested in getting first, as there are numerous reviews that are easy to find. But I'm very intrigued by the large number of novellas/chapbooks Lee has published. What of these would be considered "essential?" I know I want "the Pig," but what other ones are must haves? 4: Lastly, I see that there is a movie coming out of the story "Header." Are there any plans to reprint this story for those of us that missed it the first couple times round? Thank you to anyone that can help me out. I really excited about exploring more of this author's work. |

Hello Rascal, congrats on picking up an interest in Ed, your world is about to get sooooooooo good. 1: Not sure where there is a more up to date bio, http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/l/edward-lee/ is a good place to start, it don't list all the chap books and novella's but it's got Slither which was 2006. 2005 and 2006 also saw a couple of class Ed Lee books coming from Necro, the Hardback limited of SLither and the Limited re-print in lovely hardback form of Creekers, both were beautiful productions. More stuff coming out soon, is GAST, Room 415, Haunted House and the re-release of the amazing Teratologist. and whatever he's writing now 2. Apart from "The Pig", the Vinchetti Mob turn up in "The House" which was a companion piece for "The Pig" and the story "Miss Torso" also features Vinchetti Mob shenanigans, there could be more stuff, but I've not finished reading everything yet. 3. All the Novella's and Chapbooks are essential. I've found most of his best stuff is in the limited editions. "Ever Nat" for instance, is awesome "Teratologist" is a must read, "The Baby" is a classic, and the list goes on, also he's done some great collaborations with Jack Ketchum. I've never been dissapointed with his short stories so far, what they may lack in page count they make up for in gore and gross out. 4. I have no idea about a re-print of HEADER, I would imagine so, perhaps even with a follow up would be nice, I'm lucky enough to have a copy of the original paperback and the re-print in Sex, Drugs & Power Tools but I'd fork out again to have another issue. Best of luck with your exploration of Ed's stuff. Be sure to snag a copy of GAST coming soon from camelot books, this one is gonna be a killer. |

Thanks for all the info. I have all the mass-markets ordered for me from the library, and I plan on getting "the Pig" in the next week, hopefully. There so many books to read. I also have Room 415 preordered. It's wonderful to have a job that pays relatively well and allows me to read half the time I'm on the clock. Jack - Thanks for the information and recommendations. I looked up some of the books you mentioned. "Teratologist" sounds amazing. I can't really find any info on "Ever Nat" other than it really gets to people, and something about "pumpkin soup." Needless to say, I am intrigued. Lee - Thank you for the bibliography. I hope it wasn't a bother. That's good that there will be a reprint of "Header." Its also good that it won't be for awhile; gives me a chance to catch up with everything else. I noticed you referenced in other posts that "Gast" will feature some returning characters. I've only read the books of yours that I've mentioned above. Are there any other books I should read before "Gast" in order to get the full effect, or can a new reader dive right in. Once again, thanks to both of you for the information. |
