I'm looking for recommendations on which Lovecraft and Lovecraft inspired movies are worth buying. There are a lot of films out there based on his work but unfortunately most of them tend to suck. I've been lucky with my purchases so far and have enjoyed the movies I've researched and bought (with the exception of The Dark Sleep). Please leave some feedback and reviews on the movies worth shelling out my hard earned money for. I would also be interested in any authors out there who stay true to the master's vision. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of Mr. Lee's endeavors into the worlds created by Mr. Lovecraft and would be interested in similar works of fiction. I look forward to your comments and guidance. |

My favorites are The Shunned House by Ivan Somethingorother, which combines Witch House, Shunned house, and Eric Zann; it's an excellent production. The most faithful HPL flick so far is Call of CthulhU by the Lovecraft Historical Society; it's low budget but brilliant in that it was shot like a movie in 1928. Whisperer in Darkness is very good too. Dunwich Horror with Dean Stockwell from 1970ish and Die Monster Die (a version of Colour out of Space) are also favorites even though the stray from the originnal stories. Dreams in the Wtch House, a Masters of Horror flick by Stuart Gordon is also excellent. Dark Sleep was particularly great but I've always like Polonia Bros. stuff and it was some of their best production for low budget. When I think of more I'll post them! Best Edward Lee |

The Call of Cthulhu is an excellent film- highly recommended. As far as stories go, you might like "N." by Stephen King in his Just After Sunset short story collection. It's inspired by one of the stories that was a big influence on HPL. |

This German adaptation is really good for The Colour Out of Space. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1756479/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 There is some really bad green screen in the first 5 minutes but after that its good. very atmospheric and creepy. |

Honestly, I've never read the actual story, but FROM BEYOND is a killer Stuart Gordon Lovecraft flick. I'm assuming it captures the jist of the story really well, though I can't confirm that. All I know is that it is one of the wildest horror movies out there as far as hands on creature effects go, very little CGI. Also check out Re-Animator, though I'm sure you must have seen that one. Both films go very well hand in hand, but From Beyond is by far the crazier of the two. |

Thanks for the info. I already own most of the movies listed with the exception of the German Colour out of Space and the Shunned House. These were two of the movies I was considering buying and I appreciate the reviews given by all. I think I need to give The Dark Sleep another shot as well, I think I fell asleep while watching it the first time. Again, thank you to you all. |
