Being stubborn about these PA movies, I had to go tonight to check out the new one. I think if you're a fan of the series, it is worth a look. I thought it was better than PA 4 and gave me some hope that the true PA sequel later this year might be interesting. There was one very cool element in the movie involving a door that I really liked. This one may not be doing through-the-roof box office, but on a budget of 5 mill, it's already closer to some kind of profit margin than a lot of the bigger titles. Ryan H. |

I love the first three PA's, hated the 4th. I actually saw this new one back in June. I had the pleasure of attending a "research screening" (it was titled the Oxnard Tapes at the time). I thought it was really good, def better than the dreadful 4th one, but there were a couple of suggestions I made in my comments for how to improve the film. I'm going to see the final product tomorrow night. I'll be interested to see what changed. And I know exactly what you're talking about with the door. I also thought that part was really cool. |

That's interesting. I'd be curious to know what wound up changed from that original version, if anything. I hope there's more done with the door. It seems to have potential as a recurring idea. Ryan H |

Saw it last night. They definitely added a fair amount to the rough cut I saw. To be honest, I prefer the first version. It seemed like they were worried there wasn't enough horror action, not enough scares, so they threw in a lot more stuff going on toward the end. SPOILERS ABOUND: In particular, the part after he goes through "the door" and it really ties in with the PA mythos was a little over-explained, I thought. I like the first cut, where the horror was a little more subtle and the ending (relating back to the first PA) was a little more implied. Different strokes, though... I still thought it was a kick-ass horror movie. Anyone who's a fan of the franchise will definitely enjoy it. I give it 7/10 stars. The scenes with the dog on the ceiling, the exorcism with the eggs, the moment where the room sort of elongates and then Jesse appears floating in the middle of the room, those were all new and weren't there in the rough cut I saw. They did not make the one change I strongly suggested: there are two scenes with the jump-scare of a character falling to their death (one on top of a car, one through a glass ceiling toward the end). I feel like doing that twice in one movie is a little redundant, and suggested that they change it. Oh well. |

Thanks for the breakdown on that, Brent. I'll at least say the room elongation scene was a pretty nice addition. I liked how that turned out. I'm sure on BluRay there will be an even longer version like with the other PA movies. Ryan H. |

I'm definitely a sucker for this type of film but I've been so busy I haven't had time yet to see Marked Ones. However I recently bought what looks to be a zero-budget flim called The Bake Street Haunting and found it very worthy. A little slow but the images that the plot built up to were terrifying. I guess I'm just turning into an old creamcake but more and more these low budget found footage flicks make me afraid to go to bed because I just KNOW I'll wake up in the middle of the night, open one eye, and see some THING peering at me from the foot of the bed!
