I'm tickled pink to report that last Monday I conducted my 2nd shoot for Cornface and it couldn't have gone better! (Actually, it could have if I remembered to TURN THE CAMERA ON before each cut! I blew several scenes on my first shoot for making the same blunder.) A friend of mine named Jeff and his lovely wife Whitney were the participants; Jeff standing in for Cornface while I worked the camera and also delivering a very credible performance as a drug addict, and Whitney playing the ever-so-rude prostitute and drug dealer. I missed a couple of shots because I KEPT FORGETTING TO TURN THE CAMERA ON but the error is easily fixed. Everything else turned out great. Whitney and Jeff agreed to come back to shoot the final scene (which involves blood, a skimpy dress, and a wheelbarrow), we'll also reshoot the few spots I missed because I FORGOT TO TURN THE CAMERA ON, and Whitney even agreed to to another full scene for no additional pay! I'm also especially grateful to reelsplatter for telling me which recording mode and frame rate to use, because when I switched to these settings, the footage came out astonishingly good. I can scarcely believe a floor model $600 camcorder could produce footage that looks so filmlike. (It's a Canon G10--I HIGHLY recommend it.) And my Samson $10 karaoke microphone sounds excellent. I'm going to have to get off my ass and make a CORNFACE THE MOVIE website so I can post stills and info. This Saturday or Sunday night--knock on wood--another actress will be coming to my house for my "succubus" scene, which is crucial for it is the impetus by which Cornface sells his soul to the devil. By golly, this film-making stuff is a lot of fun!

I'll keep you posted; thanks, as always, for your interest and support!

Best
Edward Lee
PS--last night I watched Demon Witch Child, which is an Amano De Ossorio film I'd never heard off. It's wonderful in that grainy 70's kind of way--very reminiscent of Bava--and has about the creepiest witch I've ever seen in a film probably, absolutely hideous, and somehow they were able to exactly duplicate this old witch's face onto a 13 year old girl. Very cool.

I am still on board for the mailman!

Congrats! I haven't seen that De Ossorio film but I have a copy. I'll have to give it a look soon!

First, last night, I had my next shoot--the Succubus Scene, and though I blundered a few cuts, the stuff I most needed came out fantastic. Might have another shoot later this week, knock on wood. (And, believe it or not, I didn't forget to turn the camera on!)

Right now I'm watching--of all things--In the Dead of Night starring Lindsay Wagner; turns out it's a film adaptation of Gary Brandner's Walkers, which I read ages ago and really dug. Lined up to watch are Deadly Detour, Haunting of CT 2, the Code Red Messiah of Evil, and, yes, Antfarm Dickhole! Last night I watched Cemetery Girls, a Paul Naschy vampire flick that was only available as a real lousy transfer, but this one is GREAT.

Thanks for your support and take care!

Very cool about the succubus scene ... money shot!

Did you watch Cemetery Girls from the 2-on-1 DVD with Vampire Hookers? I'm checking out Demon Witch Child right now ... yeah, that witch looks crazy!

Yes, it also had Vampire Hookers but the real treat for me was the gorgeous remaster of Cemetery Girls. Wow. And last night I watched the Code Red Messiah of Evil and it's just so great I'm tickled pink. Plus the interviews and commentaries were an extra treat. It's funny how the director, etc, all talk about the movie like it's a low budget dud when actually it's one of the few unique zombie flicks and has a look all it's own. It made me think of MArio Bava shooting in California. Just ordered a bunch of Naschy stuff from the same company now. Also saw Seeds of Evil and Taste of Satan and I'm afraid my opinions are less than enthusiastic: they're stupefyingly dull! However, I also watched (and paid for!) When Death Calls, Dirt Bags, and Surreal Sicko and--thought I hate to be scathing and negative about someone's work--damn! These are the most UNWATCHABLE movies I've probably ever beheld! No exaggeration. They slap hot chicks on the cover and suckers like me buy them every time. I mean, a movie with a title like Dirt Bags you would think might have at least a smidgen of entertainment value but...not so! Dullness and stupidity are the key elements. I can understand stupidity being used as a mode for comedy but someone needs to tell these guys that comedy is supposed to be FUNNY! Anyway, enough of my rant. On a brighter note, Ant Farm Dickhole (made by the same company) was pretty funny at least for the first 45 minutes, and I'll at least give my Best Horror Title Of The Year award. I'm pretty sure that Silly String represented the major component of the budget. Oh, but a GOOD low budget flick I saw is Deadly Detour, about the Maryland "goatman" murders. Excellent and really over the top gross. Wait till you see what Goatman does to the busload of blind people. It's definitely worth checking out, and as I recall it was inexpensive.

As for Cornface, I've received still more props, etc. in the mail. There's a scene where, uh, the devil's genitals make an appearance and I must say, the prop I've made is pretty outrageous looking! I hope to have another scene shoot in a few days; I'm recruiting my ex-girlfriend's daughter to play 1) a prostitute, 2) a 12 year old girl in bobby socks who cusses like a longshoreman, and 3) a corpse! I have high hope!

Talk to you all soon,
Edward Lee

Cool, I'll have to check out that Cemetery Girls 2-on-1. That's one Naschy I haven't seen yet, and most of them are worth tracking down. It sucks that all the ones that were coming out in the US are OOP now like Werewolf Shadow, Blue Eyes of the Broken Doll, Night of the Werewolf, etc.. I bought them all back when, but it'd be nice to know they're out there if I ever needed them for some reason. Still waiting for someone to do Inquisition/Inquisicion. Did you see that one? Naschy as witchfinder general. I liked that one a lot.

Yeah, that Messiah of Evil print is great. Really cool movie, but I haven't had a chance to listen to the commentary yet. I know they didn't have enough money to shoot all the scenes they wanted, including one of the most pivotal ones. That atmosphere they captured with that one would have translated very well to a Lovecraft adaptation.

I'll keep on the lookout for Deadly Detour. Hadn't heard about that one.

I'm about to go finish a good one -- The Beguiled with Clint Eastwood. His only movie as a bad guy. I think they edited the trailer to make him look more heroic, which is funny when you see what he's actually doing in the movie.
