Should have thought to mention this since I watched it Thursday night, but the new Evil Dead movie has a lot of gruesome stuff in it. If you're seeking splattery set pieces, you'll get them. I still think Piranha was a gorier spectacle overall, but ED is certainly up there and I'll be curious to see the unrated version for what they trimmed to get an R rating. The movie itself isn't life altering or anything, but I liked it well enough.

Previews for You're Next and The Purge looked great...I can't wait for those. Hopefully they'll be more satisfying entries in home invasion horror than the somewhat missed opportunity of The Strangers.

Just got back from seeing it with my wife and two daughters (17 & 20). I agree with you Ryan. I would probably give it a B- but the gore is good and it has some brutal scenes. The script is awful. The guy who took our tickets was saying that they had to use cg over the practical effects in order to get an R but it really didn't hurt the film too bad. My two main problems with the film is the script and the modernized look and sound of the demons (voice overs, contact lenses). All the newer possession movies have demons with this glossy kind of look that I don't care for. Overall, it's still a must see on the big screen. If you do go watch it, stay until the credits are completely over.

I enjoyed the remake. If I am high fiving my buddies and clapping, I had fun. Plenty of gore! Ending could have been stronger. The script was weak, sure, if you anylize it, but for fun factor, can't be beat... yet. It's still early in the year to tell. I recommend it and what splatter said, if you watch it, stay till the end of the credits.

I've got a butt-kicking cold right now but I'm hoping I feel better enough tomorrow to see it. (And I will stay through the end credits.) I'm kind of hoping it's not as gruesome as I anticipate, because Cornface will be!

I bet you have that same damned cold I got a couple weeks ago. I've heard about a few people getting it. It suuuuuuuuuuucks. It sidelined me on adding to the Pic novella collaboration for a week. Still have a lingering cough. Good thing I took cough drops to the movie the other night or everyone would have lynched me, and rightly so.

I thought the movie kicked ass for what it was. My son had never seen the original, and he still liked it. It was a thrill ride from beginning to end, and it had a few nods to the originals. It even had an actual scary scene or two. The gore was top notch. Good acting for a horror film. Kudos. As far as the scene following the credits at the end, I say skip it. It wasn't worth it.

I also saw Sinister for the first time. Slow, creepy, a good story and fine acting. Very predictable, but so much better than the pg-13 fluff that seems to hit the theaters every couple of weeks.

I actually fell asleep through some of it! It was ok, but I was let down, not as much as the let down "Land of the Dead" gave me, but let down.

"Dawn of the Dead" didnt need to be re-made, but i enjoyed that!!! The first ten minutes alone makes it worth it all!!!
"Hills Have Eyes" was an amazing re-make, WES Craven said it had to be done! The original is classic just because whats his name is in it....oh Micheal Berryman...other than that, the re-makes are lame!!! Im disgusted!!!

Bicsam. You really didn't miss anything unless you are a die hard fan of the original movies and wanted a tiny taste and tease. I'm sure that Chuck and I just figured that most people on this board would fall into that criteria. Micah. Land of the Dead is not a remake and have you seen the directors cut? I really like that movie but I know that many people didn't. Ryan, I agree with you on Piranha for the most part but to me, video game gore isn't the same as practical effects gore. As far as the bloodiest R-Rated movie in a wide release, I think that Django might be the bloodiest. What does everyone else think? What's the bloodiest wide release movie you've ever seen?

I'm still kind of surprised more people like the Dawn of the Dead remake than Land of the Dead, but I guess I'm (way) in the minority on that one. At least LOTD had people getting eaten, which kind of automatically put it over DOTD for me. The Dead movies after LOTD, though ... wow. I was actually glad when I heard he was doing the Deep Red remake just so he'd stop making zombie movies. I know that fell through, so I don't know what he'll do next. Hopefully something different, though. Seems to me that the obvious idea a few years ago would have been for him to remake Day of the Dead with the script he'd originally intended, but maybe that just wasn't economically feasible.

I almost went to see it today but then started feeling nauseous from this damn cold/bug whatever. I DEFINITELY didn't want to walk into a movie like that queasy BEFORE the flick stars! Now I'm home and watching the unrated UNBORN and its great so far, a lot edgier than the theatrical version. I'll shoot for Evil Dead tomorrow.

Haven't seen this yet, but I'm dying too. I'm in Australia doing school and they don't get movies till five weeks after they come out in North America. Imagine my disappointment when I learned this on opening night...

One word! Relentless! From start to finish I loved this movie.

I liked that fact they didnt do a straight remake.

If you have not seen it yet go see it.

I would go again and will be buying the DVD.

I finally saw it and thought it was good. They didn't really do anything excitingly new with the original premise but it was still a well done effort, with great acting. If anything Im hoping they now do a new avenue of sequels off this new one. Some of the imagery in this flick was outstandingly macabre. Now I'm hoping the Lords of Salem comes to my theater. Later!

Post subject:  Re: EVIL DEAD

I have read in a few places that there is a grand scheme that they hope to achieve.

Evil Dead 2013 will get it's own sequel not an Evil Dead 2 remake

Army of Darkness is going to get an Evil Dead 4 sequel

then the main character from Evil Dead II will be in a cross over movie with Old Ash. becoming Evil Dead 3 or 5 which ever way you look at it.

would be awesome if that happened but as we all know things get shelved/scrapped etc and it may not happen but we can hope.

Hail To The King Baby!

Oh and while I am on an Evil Dead kick I must say Ash has one of my favourite quotes of all time in Army of Darkness.

'Well from what I can see you're King of two things right now, Jack and Shit and Jack left town'

Sorry if thats not 100% correct you movie buffs but you get the point.

Anchor Bay is giving Lords of Salem a bigger theatrical push because we actually got it here and we've never gotten anything released from AB before. I went last night and enjoyed it. Has its flaws but I liked the mood it evoked and I'll be buying the BluRay.

Glad to hear Lords wasn't a flop; I heard Zombie on the radio talking about it and it sounded like a great concept. And that's GREAT news about the Evil Dead sequels! Can't wait for that!

FINALLY! It's opening night here in Sydney Australia... Gonna hit the advanced showing at 12:01 am... It'll be a tree cuz the university is about a 45 min bus ride from the city, then it's a big jaunt up George street to get to the actual theatre in NewTown, but it's the first showing in all of Australia, so it'll be cool.... Now, I just hope I don't walk away disappointed

Picked up the DVD yesterday, gonna take on holiday with me, show the wife and her friends that are coming with us, nothing like a good old movie night.

Especially in a so called haunted Portuguese family villa!

You're all gonna die tonight! From Piri Piri ring sting!
