Are there any books that are 2 extreme to read.
Find it hard to believe, but i figure there will be.
1 book that springs to mind is : His Pain by Wrath James White.
Especially one scene with his mother came dangerously close to the edge.
That was OMG.

Only one book I've not been able to finish.

HOGG by Samual R. Delany.

That's got some vile fucked up shit going on in it. I was enjoying it but the supernatural staying power of the guys just got to me in the end and I found it just too unbelievable. Sure getting a load off a few times in quick succession is not beyond the norm, but those sick fucks had some kind of superhuman penises. Normally I could still go on realing that shit if it were freaksih mutants or demons or something cause you know, them folks can have peckers that just won't go down... but the dudes in HOGG were just normal guys... we normal-ish for a bunch of sicko's. Also the fact that they took a break from sticking it to women every once in awhile and started sticking it to each other wasn't something I enjoyed reading about. It's ok if it's something like EVER NAT, cause that's part of the horror, but in HOGG it was just a bit much even for me.

So yeah, I'd say HOGG right out there on the border of what's too extreme to read. Not that I won't finish it one day, but it's a slog.

I was able to finish HOGG but I had to force myself to keep going at times. I thought some of the stuff in the last third was quite hilarious but that may have just been my brain trying to protect itself from going insane by finding something to be amused by.

Another really tough one for me was the MALLEUS MALEFICARUM or THE HAMMER OF WITCHES, written in 1486, and being a pretty huge book detailing what witches supposedly do and how they have to be punished for their sins as well as how to torture suspected witches appropriately. What got to me was not any kind of graphic descriptions but the mind-boggling ignorance and rabid misogyny of the text, combined with the knowledge that this exact book had been used in centuries past as a guideline to torture and murder tens of thousands of people. I did finish the damn thing (and mind, I read a bilingual edition that had the original Latin text side-by-side with a German translation) and wrote a thesis on it that got me a good grade but I put myself in one hell of a funk in the process and to this day I'm not sure if it was worth it.

As for a book I didn't finish... the Marquis de Sade's 120 DAYS OF SODOM beat me. I probably could have handled the endless atrocities but de Sade's obsession with interminable lists of what was done to whom, complete lack of characterization and any narrative to speak of finally got the best of me. I like de Sade as a philosopher but in my opinion he fucking blows as storyteller.

I've never read MALLEUS but have always wanted to. It's like a torture manual endorsed by the Church, right? I've proabably mentioned this in the past but I had a VERY hard time reading some of Rex Miller's Frenzy (and Rex was friend of mine! He was tickled when I told him that.) And I could never finish Peter Sotos due to the depth of its misogyny and misantropism (wow! It's high octane!) I laughed through American Psycho, though; I bought it when it caused the big hub bub. The Habitrail scene and Mace scene were so ludicrous I had tears in my eyes laughing so hard. (But the movie was great). And, yes, I blanched through Justine and other De Sades stuff. Pure and simple, the guy was a whack! (Of course, he'd probably say the same about me!)

The rape scene in Dick Laymon's COME OUT TONIGHT was too much for me. It kept getting worse and worse. I just didn't want to read about a rape in such a matter of fact way. Just when I said "That's it, can't read no more", it ended. Laymon took it to my personal breaking point, and stopped!

I had the hardest time with JFGs Survivor. I did finish it, but I had to take a 24 hour break about half way through - and it REALLY messed with my head (bearing in mind, I had very young kids at the time). I did finish HOGG but it wasn't easy, and I'm not sure if I'd ever read it again. I don't have an overwhelming urge to burn the book, so I'll leave it on my shelf as some sort of twisted badge of honor. I do need to get ahold of 120 days, just for shits and giggles :D
