I just saw a pay per view called V/H/S and it was one of the best horror movies I've seen in years. Shit, I'm STILL blown away. Decayed: I've seen most of the films on your list and they rock, especially the Naschy. Later!

PS--and don't worry, I'll be writing again soon. And I believe my novella Pages Torn from a Travel Journal will be out in trade pb before too long, in case you haven't read it

Post subject:  Re: What are you waiting for.

I watched V/H/S on Saturday and enjoyed it. Pretty cool anthology via found footage, which reminds me that I'm looking forward to Paranormal Activity 4 as well as the new PT Anderson movie The Master, Sinister, Django, Machete Kills Again, Sin City 2, Prometheus extended BluRay cut, Looper, and several movies this fall.

I watched the Intruder BluRay the other night. It's fun ... rampant KNB gore with a lot of zany Scott Spiegel camera tricks.

Everyone should check out the Synapse BluRays of the Hammer movies they've done here recently -- Vampire Circus and Twins of Evil were killer!

Glad to hear that about Pages Torn... I went looking for it this weekend and saw the price on Amazon and decided, "Yeah, I'll have to wait for a trade or Kindle of that one." haha But I've still got Trolley, The Golem, and Brides of the Impaler to keep me busy in the meantime.

It is a massive tome. No wonder it took 6 years between books. It is huge.

Hope it's not his last. He's near 70 and it's getting longer between releases.

Ash isn't available here until December, yet you can buy the kindle version in the UK for 20p. So not fair.

Shows you how out of the loop I am: I had NO IDEA about a new James Herbert, and that sounds very exciting indeed. Anyone know what the ad copy or flap copy is? I hope is very supernatural!

It's a supernatural story. Third in his David Ash trilogy, following Haunted and The Ghosts of Sleath. Premise is Ash investigating a castle haunting in Scotland.

As for it not being available until December, try www.thebookdepository.com They are UK based and have free worldwide delivery. I got mine delivered to Canada. Took 1 - 2 weeks to arrive.

Been a big fan of Herbert since The Dark way back when. Need to grab a copy of the Secrets of Crickley Hall, which I think comes out here in the US very soon...and Ash, as well. Oh wait, need to read Sleath first...

Author:  John Copeland [ Sat Sep 15, 2012 12:36 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: What are you waiting for.

You need to read Haunted then Sleath in that order if you haven't.

In Sleath, Herbert includes spoilers for Haunted and in Ash he includes spoilers for Sleath.

Crickley Hall was good. It has been adapted for a TV movie by the BBC and should be out later this year.

Post subject:  Re: What are you waiting for.

That'll happen some day but by then giving headers will probably be legal. I read Haunted and liked it, my fave Herbert was probably The Dark. (He wrote The Spear, too, didn't he?)

Post subject:  Re: What are you waiting for.

Herbert is one of the best the UK has to offer.

THE RATS, THE LAIR and Domain have to be one of my favorite trilogies ever.

I kinda stopped reading him a few years back though, but as he had such a long delay between books I've only actually missed out on Crickley Hall and Ash, I like his style but I find myself more swayed by siction and hardcore these days and spend most of my reading time focusing on that.

What I'm looking forward to most?

Header 3, or anything else Ed's gonna put out.

Succulent Prey II : Prey Drive by Wrath

Suburban Gothic by Keene

Coyote and Vectors by McBride

and FROM MURLY DEPTHS by Brett Williams.

Not sure if many of you folks have read him but Brett Williams is a name you should look out for. Especially his book FAMILY BUSINESS. He was self published and I managed to get a copy and give it a read. You like hardcore, Siction and Redneck shenanigans well FAMILY BUSINESS has that shit in abundance. It's soon to be published by Gallows Press so be sure to check that shit out as soon as it's here and you won't regret it... you can trust me on that one.

Post subject:  Re: What are you waiting for.

It's only really between Crickley Hall and Ash that there was a big delay.

Nobody True in 2003 was great, as long as you can get through the first 100 pages. He spends the first 100 pages going through trivial detail of running business, with the purpose of character development but it ends up being just ridiculous. Skim past that and you have a really nasty supernatural horror tale.

Post subject:  Re: What are you waiting for.

Just an update on Vomit Gore...

I watched all three films, and honestly, I don't really see what the hype is about. I don't believe these are good movies by any stretch, or are even what you can consider movies. Just a bunch of junkies puking and pissing and eating puke and drinking piss. I can't even fathom how fans of extreme horror can throw this garbage into the same category as Cannibal Holocaust and Aftermath. There were only a couple gore scenes I thought were okay, but this does not make up for the amount of disgusting shit you have to watch. Seriously bottom of the barrel here folks.

I could dog this garbage forever... I mean, It was a major effort to sit through these. Not because they were gross, but because they were boring as hell. Then theres this big fat guy who pops up every so often who eats his own puke. Not very entertaining if you ask me. It didn't even accomplish it's goal to shock. The only thing that shocked me about this is how much longer I had till the end. It was like some masochistic attempt to survive the boredom of it all, just to see if I could find some justification in dropping 50 beans on this crapolla, only to come out the other side feeling raped of my money and more importantly.... TIME!!! Time I could have spent re-watching Horror Rises From The Tomb.

But hey, I'll let you make your own decision on this.

I say...

Watch the Poughkeepsie Tapes instead... Much better movie.

If anyones interested, I'll sell ya my copy. I just can't justify putting it up there with my Fulcis and Vanbebbers.

Post subject:  Re: What are you waiting for.

Decayed, I agree completely. I have a friend who told me I HAD to watch Slaughtered Vomit Dolls, and the movie made no sense and it was just puking over and over again. Very little gore, although I think one part was kind of cool, with an eyeball. But the vomiting got old quick. So I never watched the other 2. Luckily it was on Netflix streaming, so I didn't pay anything for the movie. You have my sympathies for sitting through all 3.

Good luck on getting rid of these.

Post subject:  Re: What are you waiting for.

I haven't even heard of these Slaughtered Vomit Dolls movies, but doesn't sound like much to see. I would think someone is better off watching Horror Rises from the Tomb in most instances anyway.

More upcoming stuff of interest ... looking forward to Sinister next week. Saw Looper last night and enjoyed that a lot! I just saw the trailer for the new Rob Zombie movie Lords of Salem today and cannot wait for that. It looks great. Oh, and caught the preview for The Collection before Looper last night, so seeing it in that theater indicates it will have a wider release than The Collector did. It looks crazy, and I definitely have to see that one. Due out at the end of Nov.
