I heard that Stephen King books and Koontz books are often not written by them.
They hire ghostwriters.
They make the outline, some-one els finishes it.
To me that's unbelievable.
That's the reason King and Koontz are able to put 5 / 6 books a year on the market.
Think it's an outrage to his fans.
When i buy a novel from King i want it to be written by King and not a ghostwriter.
KING and KOONTZ shame on you :<
It's not fair for your readers.

By the way : favorite King novels are IT and The Stand.

I like King, I am in awe of Wrath and the King is still our Edward.

Where did you hear this?

Neither King nor Koontz put out 5-6 books a year. Even James Patterson, who admits to using ghostwriters, never put out more than 2. Koontz's books are very formulaic and easy for him to write and he only puts out one every 18 months or so now. The man works 14 hours a day! King is not so prolific anymore and is putting out a book maybe every 2 years. At the height of his popularity, he put out some "trunk" stories; some under his name and some under the Richard Bachmann name.

I'd also like to know the source of this allegation since it is far from the truth.

I heard it a couple of years ago from some one who works in a bookstore.

Tought it was strange, always was in the back of my head.
But here are many fans who may no more.
Appologies if i made people mad (

I'm sure neither Koontz nor King uses ghostwriters. Read Stephen King's "On writing" and it will give you a pretty good idea how important the creative process is to him.

I used to read both these authors, and although they lead me to find Laymon and eventually Edward Lee, they have written some classics and also some dross but I have never known them put 5/6 books out a year, odd time Koontz has done 2 a year one early and one late in a year. Are you not thinking when the get re-prints from another publisher?

IT is up there with my top horror reads, I still hate clowns.

Yeah, i realise that by now.
Someone at a bookstore told me that story, he had good contacts with publischers.
Had no reason to doubt him.
But luckely IT has been written by king himself.
pfffff.

Actually, if you include his co-writers, James Patterson has a total of 13 books that will be released/have been released in 2012. He's been doing that for awhile. However, if you include only the novels he "supposedly" wrote himself, then it's just a measly 2. Wow! Patterson you're slacking!

I can't imagine King ALLOWING anyone to ghostwrite for him. I'd always heard that's he's one of those writers who HAS to write, and is sort of addicted to the creativity. There have been times when I've felt the same way in which case I'm in SERIOUS withdrawal now. When I start writing again, it's gonna be like how I imagine hard drugs! h, and for you experts out there: didn't James Patterson write a horror novel, like, 30 years ago called Virgin, that was then made into a tv movie with a different title? I remember reading the book and it was fun; about the same time as Golgotha Falls by Frank D'felita, I think.

Take your time Edward.
You have had very rough times.
Hope writing will be a good medicine for the terrible loss you suffered.
It's the most dreadfull things a man can suffer, death of a familymember.
Will wait patiently for your new book.
When it arrives, usually by Jizzlefinger, it's a pleasant day.
