You all are probably getting sick of hearing about my obsession with "Paranormal Activity" clones, but I rented on on cable the other night called Apartment 143. At first I was leary of ordering it cos it had the kid from Caddyshack, I think, and how effective could he be in a HORROR movie. Well, he's older than me now, and he was great, and so was everyone else, and the movie scared the crap out of me. Check it out when you can; I think this was a pre-dvd release rental. Edward Lee |

If you want a half decent paranormal activity film try 'The Amityville Haunting' it won't win any oscars but it is fairly entertaining. |

Got my DVD of Grave Encounters through the post today, seems more Blair Witch than Paranormal Activity so hopefully it won't let me down. I'm in the mood for a good creepy paranormal movie today, I don't think you can beat Session 9 though. If you haven't seen it before I would recommend it, don't let the fact David Caruso of NYPD Blue and CSI Miami fame is in it put you off. He does put in a good performance ![]() |

I liked Grave Encounters quite a bit. I was talking with my husband yesterday about horror (Hmmm...imagine that!) and as much as I love gore, splatter and nasty, nothing quite beats a good, atmospheric, creepy-ass horror. The first time I watched Darkness, maybe 7 years ago or so, I was alone and it scared the absolute shit out of me! That hasn't happened since I was a kid. The movie itself isn't that great, but I guess I wasn't prepared for the direction it took (I'm trying to not give away spoilers at the expense of being coherent!). I was catsitting for a friend when I was still living in the UK and decided that that would be a great time to sit down, in the dark, and watch The Others. It took me a looooong time to pluck up the courage to go to bed. I'm very curious about Apt 143. It sounds great ![]() |

If you thought Darkness was scary you might want to look up an earlier film by the same director 'The Nameless' based on a novel by Ramsey Campbell. Very dark, very creepy and it stays with you long afterwards. The same director went on to do Rec come to think of it. Another really good film, just don't watch the remake first though ![]() |

Watched Grave Encounters last night, not too bad was hoping for more though. One day a found footage film will live up to expectations, waiting for a new UK film called The Tapes which seems intriguing. In the meantime I found this on You Tube, it lasts just under 10 minutes but still packs in more scares than most Hollywood films these days. I've included the title just in case there's a problem with the link. Do yourself a favour watch it in the dark.. Is Darkness the one with a very young Anna Paquin? That was a pretty good movie. I also enjoyed Grave Encounters. That was done well. I never liked the Blair Witch Project because NOTHING happened in that film!! Apartment 143 looks pretty good, too! My husband doesn't like the "found footage" movies much, so I'll probably have to wait until I'm alone to see it. I watched Megan is Missing last night and I have to say that it was pretty disturbing. Maybe because I have a daughter (even though she is now an adult) or because I was home alone, but damn, that movie bothered me. Or maybe I'm turning into a cream puff in my old age, too! Glad to see some love for Bug on the disturbing movies thread!! I love Michael Shannon in everything he does, but I do think that is his best performance! Konnie |

I don't think I've seen Darkness but definitely will check it out, while I had no idea that The Nameless was made! Campbell's my favorite modern horror writer. And that stuff on youtube was dynamite! Best, Edward Lee PS--just hours ago I ordered Gacy House, which was originally billed as Paranormal Entity 2, and a spoof of found footage films called Abnormal Activity. |

APARTMENT 143 was a fun haunted house (apartment) story and I'm a sucker for them. Lee - if you're looking for more good POV horror, have you seen THE LAST EXORCISM, TROLL HUNTER, or BEHIND THE MASK: THE RISE OF LESLIE VERNON? |

The Last Horror Film is worth a view, as is the unrated version of Carver. Behind the Mask-Is that the one where Robert Englund was his successor, and taught him everything he knows? |

Ahahaha! You're right it was the kid from Cadyshack. You know I watched Apartment 143 and had no idea it was him. Bah I wish I'd know while watching it cause I think it would have made the movie better for me. I enjoyed Apartment 143 but Caddyshack was legend when I was growing up. Noonan! |
