I am also a great fan of Bently Little. One of the first "hardcore" horrornovels i read was university. Still University is one of my favorite novels alltime. His best book however is without any doubt The Store. It's really amazing Little doesnt have a forum like this. It seems this Ed forum is the hottest. Also a great fan of Dan Simmons, especially Carrion comfort and summer of night. I hope oneday Edward will write a novel with Bently. ![]() |

I've been thinking about giving Dan Simmons a try. I am planning to start with SONG OF KALI and then move on to HYPERION before Hollywood makes some dumb-ass action film out of it. |

In my opinion, Dan Simmons is an overall better read than Little. I enjoy Little's novels, but they are like candy, when Simmons is more like filet mignon. That is a horrible analogy, but I hope you can get it. If you can, read Simmon's THE TERROR and DROOD. Amazing novels, though far from being horror. Bob |

I've always been a fan of Bentley Little but I don't know him. I've always been told that he's not at all into the internet or convemtions. One Simmons book I'll always think of fondly is Song of Kali. Ass kicking! |

One of the latest Dan Simmons novels is Drood. That's a real treat by the way. It's about Charles Dickens, really good writing (better than little). Now reading Flashback by him. Haven't read song of kali yet, but will someday. I think it's a shame not more authors act the way like you do. Participating in discussions with the fans. Sometimes i check the forum of Wrath, no followers, Robert devaraux, the same. We don't have a forum like this in the netherlands, but Holland is not a country of horrorlovers. THe only way to obtain your books is by special order, ebay or jizzlefinger. I am wondering how many dutch followers you have. Wish everyone a nice weekend, and all the best for you and your mother. |

I've been after Song of Kali for a while now. I haven't managed to track one down yet (although I haven't been trying THAT hard, just in HPB and the like). I have Carrion Comfort in the pile. Not sure when I'll get to it. As for Little, I think he has the potential to be one of the best horror writers, ever. He has created some outstanding disturbing imagery but I feel like his stories all seem to prematurely ejaculate and lose their momentum. I haven't read everything he's ever written, but enough to stand by that opinion. |

I have been meaning to read some Dan Simmons for a long time, and have The Terror sitting on my bookshelf. But man, that book is daunting! I've read tons of King's doorstops, but for some reason, I'm scared of breaking open The Terror. ![]() As for Little, he has some stuff that I absolutely loved - The Store being a prime example, as you mentioned. However, I found University to be a chore to get through. Strange how that works. I've learned that as long as you remind yourself the ending is guaranteed to be sub-par, and just enjoy the ride getting there, Little is almost always a fun read. And Dutch, check out The Cellar forum here at Horror World. Lots of folks talking horror about lots of writers. But Ed Lee easily has the most active author forum, that's for sure. |
