I may have mentioned this before, and if so, pardon my piss-poor memory.
But, damn, there's this movie called The Slaughter and, well, it's not very good. Production, direction, and acting are just fine, but the script seems so meandering that the director must have said to hell with this toward the end and turned it into a comedy. Any, what I need to point out is this: the opening title sequence of this film of is certainly the greatest in cinematic history. Serious. Check it out on NEtflix and you'll see what I mean. Finally I bought a copy (5 bucks on Amazon) so now I watch that sequence whenever I need a reaffirmation of life!

Check it out.

Best!

Pretty cool but I like the opening to Thankskilling better.

Is this the After Dark movie called Slaughter, or something different?

I shouldn't keep harping about sommething so silly but--holy moly!--I'm serious! The opening sequence ROCKS. The Slaughter is distributed by Lions Gate; I don't see the name After Dark on it. It's directed by a guy named Jay Lee who did a good job technically. The story doesn't know what it wants to be but...well, watch it anyway. It's T&A with class. I also got another DVD directed by Jay Lee and starring none other than Jenna Jameson, a gory comedy called Zombie Strippers. It's only five bucks, and it's a hoot! The CGI in it is a blast, and Jenna Jameson as a zombie is some excellent work. The first two thirds of the flick is pretty dull but then it kick off into some primo gorehouse shennanigans. There's all kinds of headshots, decapitations, etc. that look alarming good for the budget. The Jameson character's end is shockingly well done too, plus a scene where another hot zombie is chopped up with a machine gun that's terrific. You gotta check this flicks out!

One flick NOT to check out, though, is Beyond the Dunwich Horror. Dud.

Later!

Addendum: I may have been hasty in my negative impression of Beyond the Dunwich Horror. It's low budget, schlocky, and hokey, BUT...die hard Lovecraft fans may like this film alot. As an actual sequel to HPL'S masterpiece, the story stands up fairly well. It has a great "look" in spite of the budget, there are a number of terrific make-up/gore FX, some great fake heads, and, well, a 3-second shot of a pair of bare breasts that would make any man and probably some women do a rebel yell, good acting, oh, and a very creepily attractive black haired girl not adverse to disrobing. Better than all that, though, is the director and producer's passion for Lovecraftian detail. So if you're REALLY into HPL, you'll probably like this flick.

Here's another rather indulgent observation, but the other night I was watching Chiller Channel and a flick called Damned by Dawn. Overall it's no masterpiece but still pretty well done. However, during the first quarter of the flick the characters are awakened by what sounds like either a very distant scream or a distant shrieking wind. It's really clever how they did this. Anyway, if you plan on seeing the flick, don't read on, but, jiminee! It's got a girl in it that makes the little girl in The Ring look like Olive Oil on Popeye, and between her and that screaming/shrieking, I was, for the first time in years or maybe decades, not very enthusiastic about going to bed, all because of a movie. I was haunted all night! I guess I'm turning into a creamcake! Anyway, that's my silly story. Oh, and I'm going to have my landlord get ThanksKilling on the computer. Later, all!

PS-and, yes, I did rewatch the opening of The Slaughter again today. Wow. I guess I, uh, need more substance in my life, huh?

We have Chiller channel but I hardly ever watch it because commercials and editing piss me off, but I'll look out for that one :D I watched a movie, alone, several years ago called Darkness. It was ok, nothing fantastic, but there were a few sequences near the end that left me almost paralyzed with fear. It just sorta came out of nowhere and it was a while before I could even contemplate sitting through it again. I love a good, unexpected freakout. It was like christmas and birthdays all rolled into one :*

Thanks for all the movie suggestions!! We will be watching Thankskilling tonight, in honor of the holiday! Plus, we are too stuffed to do anything else!

I also watched the beginning of The Slaughter, and I certainly see why Ed Lee liked it! My hubby liked it, too! I didn't quite the same affirmation of life that the guys did, though! :? But it was fun anyway! Keep up with the suggestions!

It really is a glorious opening! Also, on Chiller Channel, I'm sure I've seen some quick ads for Brian Keene's GHOUL. And I saw Ketchum's OFFSPRING on Chiller as well. Sometimes they have some great flicks, and sometimes....not, but typically even the clunkers are fun.

Best,

PS--one time they showed Phantasm 1 and forgot to edit out the boob scene in the graveyard!

I am so looking forward to Brian Keene's Ghoul!! I think it comes out in February on Chiller. Chiller does play a lot of Ketchum's movies, but I am still waiting for them to play Header!!! That would be awesome, although I think they could only show 20 minutes with all of the cuts they would have to do...heehee!!!

Konnie: I'd love to see Header on Chiller as well. Maybe that could happen if I forced my way into the station, held everyone at gunpoint, and MADE them show it! (Hey, that sounds like a cool story concept...) I can't WAIT to see Keene's GHOUL. Thanks for the tip on the showing date. (Anybody know if Brian got a cameo?)

Take care, all!
