Hey, Jason, I pre-ordered this evening.

How do we know if we're in the first 100, or which hardcover it might be? Thanks! :)

This doesn't have 100 pre-orders yet?

Regardless of the economy, this is just plain sad. Gary deserves a boatload of pre-orders as it is, but you're getting a FREE, SIGNED, LIMITED HARDCOVER!!!!

Can't wait for this - just in time for Christmas! :)

Fans of Gary A. Braunbeck have less than two weeks to take advantage of our 2-for-1 pre-order special.

Two books. Both signed. For the price of one.

If you are one of the first 100 to pre-order Gary’s upcoming TO EACH THEIR DARKNESS you will receive a free, signed, limited edition hardcover of FIVE STROKES TO MIDNIGHT.

And great news–it looks like Gary will be able to sign all 100 pre-ordered copies of TO EACH THEIR DARKNESS!

Back cover copy:
Explore the world of writing horror from a Bram Stoker and International Horror Guild award-winning author’s point of view. Gary Braunbeck uses film, fiction and life experience to elucidate the finer points of storytelling, both in and out of genre. This part-autobiographical, always analytical book looks at how stories develop and what makes them work–or not work–when they’re told.

Be warned: reality is as brutal as fiction. Rob Zombie, police shootings, William Goldman and human misery are all teachers to the horror neophyte, and Braunbeck uses their lessons to make To Each Their Darkness a whirlwind of horror and hope for the aspiring writer.

Horror legend Jack Ketchum (The Girl Next Door, Off Season) provides this awesome quote about Gary’s book:
When Gary Braunbeck writes about writing he richly knows whereof he speaks, and you who are new to the game would do well to listen. When he writes about the darkness in his own life he’s harrowing. He does both in this book, intertwining them eloquently. And his clarion call — “go for broke — just don’t go for the easy out” — should be heard, understood and absorbed by writers everywhere.

Order today for only $18.95:

We have 42 copies of FIVE STROKES TO MIDNIGHT remaining even after last week’s push. This deal ends on the book’s release date of December 11th.

Thanks for all the enthusiasm, guys! And isn't the blurb from Jack just killer? Hell, I didn't even realize he'd read the thing, let alone provided such a magnificent blurb! What a pro and a gentleman he is.

APEX Day was terrific, despite some truly miserable weather. The bookstore made this impressive banner with the cover of the book and times and the date, etc. -- I'm not kidding, this thing has to be 7 feet tall.

It is now in my possession :p

The book came out even better than I'd hoped; the layout is perfect, you're going to love the fonts choices that were made, and I could not be happier with my first book-publishing experience with Jason and Apex.

Now it's only a matter of anxiously awaiting more reviews and -- most importantly -- readers' reactions. :|

should i be worried that i havent gotten a "product has been shipped" type e-mail? :?

Post subject:  Re: To Each Their Darkness

Adam, I just got my email yesterday, so my guess is, is that they are still shipping. It normally takes up to two weeks usually to get anything via media mail, and with the holidays it could be even longer.
Like you, I can't wait to read this revised version, the first one was unbelievable and shook me up like you couldn't even guess.

I did write about it somewhere on Gary's page here.

Mine arrived Friday. Both books however did arrive damaged. To Each Their Darkness is all bent up, lumpy, and the top right corner has been folded over, and five Strokes To Midnight is torn and crushed on the top right corner.

It should not effect my reading pleasure though.

just got an e-mail from apex

Hi Adam,

Not pushy at all. New Braunbeck is serious business!

I'm about 75% through shipping all the pre-orders. The rest go out this week barring illness or the USPS shutting down.

Was this supposed to be signed? The paperback version? I just doubled checked and mine was not.

Hey, Everyone:

I was and am disheartened to hear that some of you received damaged books. Please don't let this cast APEX in a bad light. I know first-hand how careful Jason & Co. are when packing orders; I also know that for some reason -- perhaps a Congressional decree -- that packages are not handled as carefully as they might be during the non-holidays.

That said, if you will drop me an e-mail at : gary@garybraunbeck.com I have an idea as to how we can fix this.

Post subject:  Re: To Each Their Darkness

I erroneously said that both copies would be signed in that post. At least I got it right in the original announcement.

If you received a book that was crushed in shipping I'll gladly replace them. I shipped all the domestic orders in boxes, yet the USPS will still find ways to damage them.

Regarding receiving confirmation emails: Those who ordered way back when received delivery confirmation emails because the cart system I used at the time send them out when I close an order. My current cart system, unfortunately, does not send delivery confirmation emails, thus the uncomfortable silence. I've got an idea on how to rectify this for future orders.
