Post subject: | Dark Scribe Press Acquires Hadesgate Project... |
As previously mentioned on another board, DSP has decided to take on Hadesgate's previously announced book on slasher films as its second print project—following this fall's release of Unspeakable Horror, its anthology of 23 queer horror stories from the likes of Lee Thomas, Sarah Langan, Kealan Patrick Burke, Rick Reed, Scott Nicholson, and Jameson Currier, among others. We'll be making an official announcement about the new project in the coming weeks, as well as contacting all of the authors previously accepted into the book. We can share that the project will be expanded upon significantly and that the new incarnation will be a pro-paying market. There will be an additional call for submissions. There are currently 27 previously accepted essays that we're reading through; we anticipate using the majority of these "as is" with some minor revisions requested of a small handful of others to bring the essays more in line with the project's retooled focus. In short, the project will move from "guide"—and from what most would immediately associate with encapsulated reviews—to a more comprehensive collection of critical essays on the slasher film genre. In addition to opportunities for analyses on individual films, we'll also be looking for essays on various aspects of the slasher film genre. We anticipate these essays to be in the 1,000- to 1,500-word range for those pieces dealing with individual films, with a slightly larger word range and some added flexibility for essays pertaining to the more general aspects of the genre. As we did with the Unspeakable Horror antho, we'll be establishing a dedicated blog for the project where submission guidelines will be posted. We will also be posting a list of films already covered when the project was with Hadesgate, a "wish list" of films we're looking to have covered, and some suggested topics to give potential contributors an idea of what we're open to in releation to the broader essays. More details forthcoming. No queries (or submissions) until we've gotten the submissions guidelines posted, please. ![]() |
