This post made me think about the fact that a lot of close-minded people out there think really stupid thoughts when you mention 'Horror fans' to them. They think we're evil people who get off on torture, killing, and just about anything where hideous acts of cruelty prevail, with not one ounce of anything hopeful.
And any time someone posts about cruelty to animals, children or human beings in general, the caring side of 'real' horror fans always shines through.
I always get a kick out of that: how to so many people make that scared face when you tell them how you're in to horror novels, movies, or even artwork.
Wouldn't that be like saying people who read nothing but romance novels have no sense of real love and only want to screw their brains out?
Horror is about a lot of nasty things, sure, but it's also about getting through those things and being strong in the face of a life that constantly tries to beat you down.
I'll take a good horror novel over the evening news any day of the week.
