That's appalling! She shouldn't work in a library if she wants to try and censor people and pass judgement. This makes me so angry!

Uuummm, what can I say about this novel? It will make you gag and feel like you need to take a scalding hot shower. It will also make you laugh so hard anybody within a mile radius will stop and stare at you. The plot follows 4 characters: Mr. 72, Mr. 137, Mr. 600, and Sheila (the talent wrangler), and their own paths to the adult film they are making. For reference, there are 600 men in the film, thus the numbered characters. That's as far into the plot as I'll go. The story is in 1st person, and shows of the view whichever character that chapter is about. For example, chapter one is labelled Mr. 600, etc. Palahniuk is an excellent writer, especially when it comes to the interaction between characters. Recommended? I dunno. I think it takes a particular kind of reader to enjoy this. |

Craig, I haven't read Snuff, but I have read several others by Chuck Palahniuk. They are Fight Club, Lullaby, Diary & Invisible Monsters. I have Haunted on my TBR pile. I thoroughly enjoy his novels, although I can understand why some people would find them a difficult read. You have to take a trip (in every sense of the word) and have faith that you'll eventually see the light and everything will come together. It's also like sitting in the passenger seat of a car hurtling towards a brick wall, waiting for it to crash of swerve! If I had to pick a favourite of the Palahniuk books I've read it would be Diary. Kind thoughts. |

I got this one from the library yesterday. I had put a hold on it while it was still on order and I was No. 1 in line for it so I'm the first patron it's been issued to. I opened it and a thin metal strip, I think a book marker, fell out. A quote from the bible was engraved on it. A librarian put it there. One of the fucking librarians, who are supposed to encourage reading(I thought) saw the book and figured maybe they could make me ashamed to read it. Make me feel ashamed for reading a book. I was so pissed when I saw it and thought about it that I nearly went back with the intention of making a very memorable, and very loud, scene over the thing. But then I figured I might get myself banned and I can't afford to buy most of the books I read. I was going to etch something nasty on the other side of it and send it back, but my girlfriend wasn't about to let me blaspheme and she kept it for herself. I was thinking that I might tape a condom to the jacket and if I'm asked I'll show them the bookmarker and say it came with both items and tell them to thank the helpful lady for me as I found both helpful. |
