I think this is going on my top 5 greatest horror novels list of all time. Braunbeck writes like a possessed lunatic, hell-bent on making you experience every emotion in the novel-and he does just that. Man, I'll have bill collectors after me now, because I know I'll just spend all my cash on everything I can find by Gary. Bill collectors stay away! I'm reading Braunbeck! ![]() |

horrordude & theboycopeland: First of all, thank you for the exceptionally kind words about In Silent Graves -- I was, to say the least, a bit stunned when Nanci directed me here and I saw your posts. I don't know that anyone's ever put one of my novels in their 5 Best Horror Novels of All Time before. (Notice how I'm not telling you, "No, no, please, it doesn't belong there, really"? A writer is ultimately the worst judge of the quality of his or her own work, but I was and remain damn proud of Graves, so go right ahead ![]() I'm really happy to read that both of you have decided to read the books in order, but understand that's not entirely necessary in order to read Coffin County -- it's just that the novel will contain a few extra treats if you have read the three previous books. The Dorchester web site just yesterday posted an essay I wrote about Cedar Hill and Coffin County, please check it out and let me know what you think: http://www.dorchesterpub.com/Dorch/Spec ... al_ID=2490 I really appreciate all you've said about my work, it means a great deal to me, thank you so much! Since you're both (if I read the posts correctly) just now discovering my work and are finding it to your liking so much, would you perhaps do me the favor of spreading the word to others whom you think might enjoy it as much? I do a good bit of promotion, but, then, so does every other writer out there, so it's easy to become background noise or lost in the shuffle altogether (mixed metaphors, I know, I know...) I hope you find the other books equally to your liking. I'm always happy to hear readers' reactions, so do please let me know. All Best, Gary |

Gary's a genius as a writer (IMHO). He never "talks down" to his readers and always delivers an intelligent, thought (and emotional) provoking read. I've been a huge fan since I read The Indifference of Heaven (the original name of In Silent Graves) and have read everything since. Prodigal Blues was an awesome read as was In The Midnight Museum. I can recommend everything that Gary has written! |

Looks like I am going to have to move Coffin County to the top of my TBR pile. I've only read In Silent Graves and Mr. Hands and I enjoyed them both. |

No need to thank me, Gary. After the first chapter of In Silent Graves I was so blown away by your writing that I needed a breather before moving on to the next chapters. I had just finished James Moore's Under The Overtree and that blew me away also. Then I grab In Silent Graves and I couldn't believe it. The last writer to grab hold of my brain like this, was Clive Barker back in the late 1980s when I opened Imajica and had my head spun around like Linda Blair in the Exorcist. I'm putting everything else-except Piccirilli's November Mourns-on hold so I can read right through the rest of your novels. And I plan on ordering Prodigal Blues in the next few days. Thanks for writing like a true master of the craft, Gary! ![]() 1. The Stand 2. Galilee and Imajica 3. Farenheit 451 4.* In Silent Graves by Gary Braunbeck! 5. The Dead Zone |

You humble me...and thank you. (And remember, Prodigal Blues is my only non-supernatural horror novel -- but it's one I'm damned proud of. |
