I was at Half Priced books today and I think I got a few good books to go on the TBR pile. I picked up: The Pines by Robert Dunbar - I think the author was on the boards here recently, so I took a look at it. I love forests, and always found The Jersey Devil legend fun. Darkness Tell Us by Richard Laymon about Ouija Board stuff. Creepers by David Morrell about people exploring abandoned buildings. I never read anything by any of those authors but all the books sounded interesting. Has anybody read any of them? |

I haven't read The Pines, but I will soon, as for the other two...go for it. Creepers is excellent, and Darkness Tell Us is...is Laymon! Tt |

I've read Darkness Tell Us and Creepers. I really don't remember much about Darkness Tell Us but I did enjoy it. It's Laymon... you pretty much know what you're going to get. Creepers was excellent. I just picked up the sequel Scavengers, but haven't read it yet. I'm visiting Serenity Falls at the moment.. |

I've actually not read anything by Laymon, so I'm not sure what I'm going to get. Is there something I should know? ![]() |

** SLIGHT SPOILER** I liked CREEPERS too. I thought it was a deserving title for the novel. I don't want to speak for Octobernight, but in general, I can see why a horror enthusiast might not have liked the novel. The story does portray an undertone of a haunting, and maybe events being manipulated by a malevolent entity. However, you never truly know and the book does not spell it out for you. I thought it was a well executed novel full of suspense. As a horror novel, the payoff might not be quite there for most horror lovers. It did do the trick for me, though. Just a thought... ![]() |
