My apologies if this topic is already somewhere else on here. I've been reading my favorite short story collection-The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury-over again for the millionth time and was interested to see what everyone else's is. Two others defintely in my top five would have to be Everything's Eventual by the dude up in Maine and The Books of Blood by Clive Barker. |

Alone with the Horrors by Ramsey Campbell. A collection of 30 years worth of his work. It's one of the stand out works of 20th century literature. The stories in The Longest Single Note by Peter Crowther are highly literate and very imaginative. My favorite anthology is My Favorite Horror Story, which has authors giving their favorite short stories and explaining why they liked them so well. |

I have to get some of Ramsey Campbell's short stories. I have Escardy Gap by Peter Crowther and James Lovegrove in my to be read pile. Have to get more by Crowther from what people have told me. |

I think the last time I read a horror collection was Bentley Little's THE COLLECTION, that traces back to probably about a year now. I have to say the collection that has stuck with me the most, and perhaps the most enjoyable, was BLUE WORLD by McCammon. |

I remember as a kid the Pan Book of Horror. I loved it. Now, it's the annual Best New Horror which are up to volume 18, I believe.... |

I have to second Crowther's The Longest Single Note. I don't think any other collection has stuck in my mind so long after reading it. I also like William F. Nolan's pair Nightworlds and Dark Universe. |

I love Joe Lansdale. His southern fried horror is excellent. Check out Bumper Crop for some of his best work! |

I have to agree with Alone With The Horrors by Ramsey campbell. That book is awesome. Some of the highlight stories from it are Just Waiting, The Brood, Down There, The Scar, The Chimney, The Ferries, the Other Side and too many more to mention. I also love The Mammoth Book of Haunted House Stories and 100 Wild Little Weird Tales. ![]() |

Alfred Hitchcock used to put out favorite short story collections. I loved those. I even have one around here somewhere. A huge hardback with a menacing black and red cover. |
