Don't forget Summer of Night. A lot of people consider it the best thing he's ever written. |

To me, the best coming of age horror were Travelling Vampire SHow, Summer of Night and Something Wicked This way comes. All three were Stoker quality for horror and pre-teen angst all rolled very neatly to one. Of course, the Girl Next Door was another masterpiece about coming of age in a more disturbing setting.... |

I loved The Manse! She wrote a sequel, but I can't think of the title. I see it all the time at the used bookstores, but I haven't read it. I heard a lot of good things about Crota and bought it years ago, but Goingback's prose and dialogue were both clunky and that's a serious put off for me so I didn't finish it. I may one of these days. |

I also liked Cell for his original take on the zombie. For me, the scariest scene in 28 Weeks Later was at the beginning when the guy is being chased and you see more and more of them just flowing down the sides of the hills around him. The remake of Dawn of the Dead was scary because they could move quickly as well. |

See Diary of the Dead and tell me slow zombies aren't still scary. What makes those zombies scary is that yeah, you can get away from them for a while, but there is nowhere to go. There are always more zombies and running will only keep you alive until you can't run any longer. I guess I like my zombies existential. (And talking zombies... well I won't even bother with that.) |

My favorites are The Traveling Vampire Show and Heart-Shaped Box. Um.. could anyone shed some light on the Lovely Bones here? For a long time I thought it was some sappy, pretentious Oprah kinda book. I have it on my shelf, it actually does sound interesting. Since I heard it mentioned on PoH and now hear that it's won a Stoker, I am kinda confused. |

I thought it was a very well written book Ender. I don't know how much of it is classifiable horror but a lot of aspects of the book are pretty horrific. It's about a little girl who gets raped an murdered. She then goes to heaven and watches the events that happen to her family and the guy that murdered her who got away with it. She starts having some problems in heaven when she can not pry herself from watching her family constantly. It really is a good read. As far as I know Peter Jackson is still planning on directing the movie for it so I am looking forward to that. |
