Just finished Flesh Gothic. I didn't despise it like others here but I can see why some might. I have long maintained that Lee's books would be better served w/o his juevenile obsession with sex. It's unfortunate (or fortunate depending on your taste) that FG reads like the culmination of Lee's obsession with sex. But, hey, he is what he is. The other main theme of a lot of Lee's novels is religion and while he does present some interesting scenarios regarding religious faith they pretty much die on the vine of sex, sex and more sex.
It's not a scary novel in the least and it's hard not to roll your eyes when a demon is described as looking like a giant penis. But any novel that contains a scene where a person in corporeal form is ingested through the lungs of a demon and ejected from the demon's body as sperm into the body of a she-demon that is being raped to death deserves points for sheer audacity.
For a novel with such bizarre moments the ending is surprisingly unoriginal. After all the build-up we are left with the Rosemary's Baby cliched ending. I guess writing about giant demon penises left Lee a little bereft of imagination by the time he wrote the ending.
