Who would it be?

I'd have to go with King, even though I haven't enjoyed a single thing he's written in over 15 years. I'd just like to sit and chat with him--about writing, the state of the genre today, hell, even baseball.

That would be a good day. :v

Just one? Man that isn't fair!

I'll put down my order of preference:

1) Steve Vernon - Beer and chicken wings!
2) Brian Keene - Even more beer and chicken wings
3) Tom Piccirilli - Scotch, girls, and guns.

Yeah, I had to really think about that one. Keene was a very close second for me.

I would have to go with Stephen King too, I've just always wanted to pick his brain (well not LITERALLY LOL)

And I would say I'd also like to sit down and talk to Bentley Little cause his stuff is just so bizarre that he'd probably be pretty interesting to talk to :D

Well, my first choice would have been Laymon, but alas...

So, choosing from the living:

Published: King and a Red Sox game.

Unpublished (but will be) Tt and a Red Sox game.

I would've loved to have met Richard Laymon...

Richard Laymon would have to be my first pick. I went through my teens reading him. Who better else to relate with when you are a male teen and you have your hormones running wild?

I find myself re-reading all his books being released by Leisure, even though; I have read most of them already. He made a huge impact on any fiction that I sit down to write. He taught me to aim for the jugular and make as much of a mess as possible. There is never any holding back with Laymon, which I admire. The goal is always in sight.

The other two would have to be Stephen King and Robert R. McCammon.

If you put all three together for a night, well bring out the cards, beer, and cigars. We have a hell of a night ahead…

This is a tough one.
King has the years in the biz expertise.
Laimo is a regular boardie here and from what I know seems like a good guy.
Keene seems to have the hard rock type personality that would be fun
Laymon, because hanging out with a ghost is too freaking cool....
Clive barker because he wrote some of my favorite horror while I was growing up.
Chris Golden because he's a local writer (to me) who writes stuff I just get a kick out of.
Lumley because his Necroscope work will always be a personal fave...

But...if I had to choose just one guy, I would say Michael moorcock. He has an utterly astounding imagination and has written some of the wildest, off-beat dark fantasy ever. Plus he wrote music for BOC and seems like the kind of person who meeting would be unique.

Wow!!! I don't think I've ever been made a higher compliment!

Now that we know that Nate lives in the Northeast, maybe he's got some clout and he can steer the next Horror convention down Boston way. Hey, maybe Nanci can put in a good word too. If it happens we can all get together!

But even if it doesn't, you and Bill, or just you, have a standing invitation to see Boston and be treated to a Sox game (if they are playing and in town).

The problem with Laymon was...that most of the time what you wrote about him DGM worked, but when it didn't, he could be a bit on the boring side. The Lake being a good example. Midnight At The Beasthouse another. But these were far and few between. When he was on, there was no one better. Island, Funland, Quake, Night In Lomesome October...I could name a whole bunch more that were nothing but loads of fun. Thank God for the Leisure releases.

It may not be fair to include THE LAKE in the comparison because if I'm not mistaken it was published after his death and it may not have been a completed work. Anyone have more info on this?

Fair enough. Can I substitute Resserection Dreams or Wake The Dead? They were quick reads, but they felt a bit empty to me.

Aw, man. I LOVED Resurrection Dreams. One of his best. The whole idea was just flat out cool.

But I agree on his misses. Like any other author, he had his share. The Lake was atrocious. In answer to Laurel, I think I read somewhere that it was a completed manuscript, but that doesn't mean it was a polished completed manuscript. I think he may have died before he finished with it. Which is sad. I wonder how many others are left that are like that?

Hey! I hung out with Ted Bundy and he signed the cast on my arm! :<

As for the author I'd like to meet: it's a tie between these horror dudes.

Clive Barker because his brilliant novels caused my mind to be the way it is today. (Wait ... I doubt Clive would be proud of this?!)
That dude up in Maine.
Richard Laymon!!! He still rules!
Jack Ketchum because he writes like a man in a haunted sanitarium for the criminally insane.
Edgar Allen Poe-I could have had a few gallons of lager with him.

I'm gonna have to read Mr. B. Gone to see if Barker is still the man he was.

Everyone pretty much hit on the folks who I immediately thought of, so I won't mention them again.

I will say the one thing I really would like to do is sit off to the side of a room where Steve Vernon is spinning one of his yarns and watch the crowd's reactions.
