I picked this up on Tom Picirrilli's advice. It's a hard boiled English Noir novel that furthers the adventures of a reoccuring character called Brant. Brant is one of those tough guy policeman who doesn't take sh*t (can we swear here?) from anybody, including his bosses. In fact in this novel he takes his boss to a party with hookers, drugs him, and gets him laid, with his boss protesting all the while. It was actually pretty funny. Brant kicks perps, smokes dope, and drinks like there is no tomorrow. Just the kind of cop you want chasing down the really bad guys. In this story he's going after a punk woman and her two cohorts, all of them amatures, who are bombing places for extortion. The book is funny and a bit brutal at times but a very easy read. In fact, its pretty much straight story telling, all plot and action. I think this novel comes somewhere pretty late after the first Brant stories so I am guessing that Ken Bruen believes the readers will already know his characters. its an oversized trade book and I picked it up for only a couple of bucks, but it was a worth while read.
