Books read and recommended for November, 2015. Hard cover - 1. Rage Master by Simon Clark from Earthling. Strong writing and unique story. Good stuff. 2. Wolf Hunt 2 by Jeff Strand from Dark Regions Press. Read this excellent story last year and the original bonus story included here is also a gas. 3. Mister Glow-Bones & Other Halloween Tales by Ronald Kelly from Thunderstorm Books. Good collection of scary stories. 4. Wet & Screaming by Shane McKenzie and the Soska sisters from Thunderstorm Books. Read the bonus stories & poems in lettered edition. McKenzie knows how to gross me out for sure. Love it. 5. Adrift by K. R. Griffiths from Sinister Grin Press. Excellent and original vampire novel. Well-written, character-driven horror that will creep you out. 6. Fender Lizards by Joe R. Lansdale from Subterranean Press. Another wonderfully written novel of life and tribulation. Three young Hap Collins bonus stories also rocked. 7. The Whisper King by Will Radcliffe from Necro. Very original fantasy/horror based on orphans. Excellent. 8. I Do Terrible Things by John Goodrich from Thunderstorm Books. Excellent serial killer story with a novel twist. Good characterization and action. One of the better novels of the year. 9. Last Night at the Blue Alice by Mehitobel Wilson from Necro/Bedlam. My last name is Casper but I don’t normally get into ghost stories. However this time-traveling, supernatural, cult, ghostly fantasy was very good with compelling reading. 10. The Bazaar of Bad Dreams by Stephen King from Scribner. Another wonderful collection from the master with awesome story notes included. Paperback - 11. Cut Corners: Volume 2 by Ray Garton, Monica J. O’Rourke and Shane McKenzie from Sinister Grin Press. Three very good, brutal shorts. Digital - 12. Sour Candy by Kealan Patrick Burke. Well-written, creepy, engrossing story with an excellent ending. 13. Lilitu Trilogy: Book 1 by Toby Tate from Permuted Press. Good characterization and plenty of action in this supernatural sci/fi thriller hinting at spanning mythological eons. The hunt is on. Other - 14. Allen K’s Inhuman Magazine #5 edited by Allen Koszowski from Centipede Press. Favorites = #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14. Support Indie Publishers and Enjoy. |
