Are you really as tough and mean looking in real life as your author photo shows you to be? Were you ever a secret agent, a spy, or a cop? If I was ever in a fight I think I'd want you by my side, just the way you look (in that picture anyway) would scare off any bad guys. |

Tony: I'm 5"11 and about I weigh about the same as a copy of Taverns of the Dead. Growing up in Ireland, fighting is part of the culture, even more so if you drink too much and think you're a badass, which I did, so I fought a lot. Nowadays, I'm clean and sober, and as a result of my "badass" fighting days, I have arthritic hands and knees and an elbow I suspect was broken but never got fixed so the pain tends to be excruciating when I lean on it. So while I can handle myself in a fight, I tend to avoid them, which is quite easy now that I don't drink anymore. And while I can look mean, I'm really not a mean person at all (unless called upon to be so, of course; i.e. mess with someone I love and you're going down in a hurry, no matter how big you are). And I guess when darkness is your day job, it's hard to look benevolent in your pictures. That's why the majority of horror writers always look so grim on their jacket photos. Unless you're Stephen King or Dean Koontz, but then, if I had their careers, I'd be grinning like the Cheshire Cat too. So no, I'm not as mean as I look in those pictures. They're more for dramatic effect than anything and most of them were taken years ago. And I kinda dig my life these days, so laughing comes easier. I worked as a security guard and a fraud investigator for a spell, but nothing that required me to go all Jason Statham on anyone. Much. ![]() Kealan |
