Post subject: | General Question About Piccirilli Novels |
Hello, I recently decided to check out one of Piccirilli's books and so I bought the shortest of his novels that I could find (A Choir of Ill Children). But I had to put it down after about 30 pages because of it's difficult style of writing. I have to say I am German and English is not my first language. I've read several other English books so far, but "A Choir Of Ill Children" was the first I could not finish. Not because of the story but because of the writing in general. My question now is if you could recommend other of his titles which are easier to read, or if all his novels are written in this "style". I hope you understand the question and know what I mean. (Btw: Believe me, I have usually no problems reading and understanding English even if my writing is far from perfect. ![]() |

Hey Gorch, I can understand you're problem. Choir is a tough read, even if English is your first language. I would recommend The Cold Spot. That one should be much easier for you to read and seems to be written for a broad audience. Good luck and let us know if you do pick another Piccirilli novel up, we love to hear what you think of it. Tt |

Thanks for making the effort, Gorch. By the way, two of my books are currently translated into German and available through German Amazon: Schmerz (The Midnight Road) and Killzone (The Dead Letters). A third, Der Geruch Von Blut (Shadow Season) will be released later this year. |

Yes, I know about them. Dark Father is also available in German. But I prefer to read the originals as I also watch movies only in English. And as I said before I am better at reading than at writing but with CHOIR I reached my limits for the first time ![]() I got The Cold Spot right after ttzuma's recommendation. I first have to finish another book but will then begin reading The Cold Spot. |

Just finished The Cold Spot and liked it very much. Are there other titles (especially of the cheap Bantam and Leisure titles) like A Choir of Ill Children I better should avoid? I heard November Mourns is some kind of sequel of Choir, isn't it? |

No, it's not a sequel Gorch, though it could be considered a bastard cousin. It's my favorite Pic novel, but it might not be for everybody. Tom's Leisure novels are a mixed bag for readers. Some, like myself, love most of them, other people have problems with them as they are not light reading. I would recommend you stay away from these Leisure novels: A Lower Deep (I really did not care for this one at all) The Night Class and maybe The Deceased for now. I think you would really enjoy these, and they are all cheaper paperbacks: The Coldest Mile Shadow Season The Dead Letters The Midnight Road Headstone City If you enjoy the above five novels, you should be ready to tackle some of his more expensive, rarer, and more narrowly focused novels later on. The Fever Kill for instance is one hell of a book, but I believe is tough to find now. You have so much good reading ahead of you Gorch! |

Ok, I will definitely check out more in the future. But for now I have enough other titles to read. Thanks ttzuma for the recommendations. |
