I know a reader should never confuse an author's fiction with the author himself, but can the same be said of the poet? Tt |

Some writers/poets--like Jack Kerouac or Charles Bukowski--wrote chiefly about their own lives. The rest of us might use our own experiences, themes, feelings, fantasies as a springboard for the work, whether it's a novel, story, or poem. But it's always a dangerous game to think the writer/poet is talking specifically about themselves, although it always remains a possibility. |

I'm reading This Cape and I've noticed recurring themes concerning a sister as well as bitter feelings for an old love. These were written with such emotion that the reader could only assume the pain was from expirence. This is really my first foray into poetry, and I am surprised by the depth of emotion that is conveyed in so little words. In a body of work that is intense as this, its hard for me to believe that the poet is not thrusting a hand deep into his own gut and spilling the contents onto the page. But then again, I guess that's the intent of the work in the first place, to convince us of this. It's amazing how much of a punch you can deliver Tom in a phrase with only seven or eight words. And its really strange how just one phrase out of 20 - 40 in a piece can overwhelm the rest of the work and just stick with you the whole time you are reading, and long afterward. What I am discovering is that poetry such as yours is a very personal medium, for both the author and the reader. Tt |

Good poetry is a real rarity, so I appreciate the generous comments, Tony. Glad you're enjoying what you've read there. That said, I think it's safe to say that probably everybody has an old love they feel some bitterness towards, and I do have a sister as well. As a writer, you take what's you and yours and go from there. |

Another question for you Tom but first an announcement: Boarderland Press is having a Christmas sale and one of the books featured is "Tom Piccirilli's Little Black Book Of Noir Stories" and it is selling for only $ 8.00. It normally goes for $ 20.00. And if anyone is a collector of the "Little Book" series they have other volumes by noted horror authors for sale also. The sale is not listed on thier web site, it was sent out by e mail only, so if any one is interested and they did not get an email they should go to the web site or call: 410-877-1781 And shipping is free to all U.S. orders. The question I have concerns Cemetary Dance and Futile Efforts. There have been many complaints about C.D. taking orders from customers and then not shipping the books. Some going back for over a year. They have taken money for thier book club and not delivered any books in quite some time also. They make you prepay when ordering and I was told that so far no one has been able to get thier money back. So...will Futile Efforts be available from other outlets, say... The Horror Mall where you don't have to pay until they ship, aside from C.D.? I also have orders in with C.D. (some with Pic content ![]() Tt |

So far as I know, most of the complaints are because of pre-paid pre-orders. Books were announced as forthcoming, money was taken, and then the books weren't released for a long time or are as yet still unreleased. CD changed its policy, so now they don't announce books until they're nearly in hand. That cuts down on the wait for folks who do pay up-front and leaves customers much more satisfied. FUTILE EFFORTS still remains unannounced on the Cemetery Dance page. They haven't taken a dime for the book, so nobody can complain (except me) that the collection is taking too long. I have no idea if it'll be available on Horror-Mall or elsewhere, though I suspect that it'll show up in the same places as other recently released CD books. Thanks! |

I saw a book of Tom's called "A Child Arises" on Steve's Ebay site. I've never heard of this one. Is it the same story as "Jonah Arose"? Thanks. Tt |

No, Tony, not the same thing. "Her Child Arises" is a short story chapbook that was presented with the original Night Shade limited edition of A CHOIR OF ILL CHILDREN. |

Thanks Tom. I was interested in this until I saw that the shipping was almost $27.00, that's getting a bit above my budget for just one book. I am curious Tom, will this short story appear in Futile Efforts? Thanks agaian Tt |

The shipping charges must be a mistake. It's a chapbook. I've sent big boxes of five or six books to Oz for less than $27.00. It's been 5 years since I turned in Futile Efforts. I don't even know what the hell is supposed to be in that collection anymore. |
