ALL YOU DESPISE is presently at the printer and due back in about two weeks, according to Tim Deal of Shroud Publishing. THE NOBODY is my other small press release, due out in December by Tasmaniac. THE COLDEST MILE hits in late February. SHADOW SEASON should be on shelves at the end of May. |

Three books within four months. It's a great time to be a Pic fan. I just read your story in the anthology Darker.... Holy Shit! I love it when you mix the genre's... and that story freaked me out big time. And it looks like you're having fun with the blog, I enjoy it and I'm looking forward to a steady dose of Pic thoughts. I should have been more specific, sorry. It was in the anthology " The Darker Side " published by ROC. The story of yours that was in it was "The Misfit Child Grows Fat On Despair". It was about a bank robbery where things become extremely violent and there is a customer who has a unique ability to capture souls as they are released from the body. That short story had more potency than all of Keene's "Terminal" (a novel about a bank robbery). Tt |

Thanks, man. I'm very proud of that story. It went on to win the Stoker that year. |

It deserved the award. That story had me from the first paragraphs. I picked up Cady's book also, I'm looking forward to that. (but man, I've got to stop buying books! Its like I'm on drugs or something). Ttzuma |

Yeah, but good healthy drugs! I hope that you love THE WELL, TT, as well as the other pieces in the book. "By Reason of Darkness" and "The Night We Buried Road Dog" are both wonderful. |

I read your blog “Aiming For 46” with much interest and sympathy. At first I was struck at how similar our lives are concerning our fathers, but then I got to thinking there must be a lot of other men whose Dad’s have shared the same fate. My father was 42 when he died, of lung cancer also. Like your Dad he loved scary movies and I can remember going to the Drive In to watch them (we couldn’t afford to go to the movies back then, there were 7 of us in all). His tastes extended to fantasy/S.F. movies with his favorites those animated by Ray Harryhausen and any horror movie with a monster in it. He is with out a doubt where I got my love of horror novels and movies from. Like you, the age in which he died was always a goal that hovered in my mind as some sort of milestone to reach. I always figured if I made it to 42 there would be clear sailing after that, as if there would be some huge burden lifted off of my shoulders. When I became 42 the opposite happened, he was constantly on my mind the entire year. Every time I looked in the mirror I saw him. My thoughts on him did change though over the years after I became 43, I guess it’s bound to happen when you become older than your parent. I stopped thinking of him as my absent Dad. I quit wondering what he would have thought of the woman I chose to marry. I stopped questioning myself if he would be proud of me. I ceased wanting to know if he would have been happy that I was in a house that I helped design and did an awful lot of the work on, skills that he taught me while I was growing up. I started looking at his life and how he lived it. What decisions had he made? Why were we so poor growing up? I tried to see how he had become what he had been and how he dealt with his problems. Rather than someone who was just a father to me, he became a real person, not just this mythical figure who I constantly imagined getting his approval from. I started to look at him and his life more objectively. I wonder, if I wasn’t his son, would I have been his friend? I still think of my Dad every day. And I still miss the hell out of him every day. Thanks for a great blog Tom. Ttzuma |
