It’s been 25 years since Clive Barker published WEAVEWORLD, a novel that both amazed and confused readers across the globe. It became a fantastic enigma for his fans while winning him several more. Those who loved THE BOOKS OF BLOOD and THE DAMNATION GAME had been thrown not by the dark, but by the fantasy of the novel. Ultimately, it became one of his most beloved books and set the stage for such works as IMAJICA, THE GREAT AND SECRET SHOW, ABARAT, and many other shorter works.
Earthling Publications has done wondrous work with other special editions and WEAVEWORLD is not an exception: it might be their finest example yet.
The numbered edition is signed by Clive Barker and illustrator Richard Kirk; leatherbound; fine endsheets; bound-in satin ribbon page marker; traycased; includes bonus appendix material printed in full color: previously unreleased art as well as an early treatment/synopsis and original typed and hand-edited manuscript pages for Weaveworld when it was initially conceived as a children’s book. All editions contain nearly 30 original pieces of art by Richard Kirk.
For those who forgot the story, or have yet to experience it, a quick synopsis is as follows: a magical world called The Fugue exists woven into an elaborate rug. The Seerkind, who have strange powers yet are being hunted down by humans for centuries, weave a spell which hides them within. After being deemed fairies and demons by humans, they barely survive “The Scourge,” an unknown being that lives among the outside world. The Seerkind decide to leave one of their own, one without powers, to guard the rug from those who seek to destroy the Fugue.
A magical story ensues, one which many believe would make a brilliant film, if someone were bright enough to pull it off successfully.
Recommended for both those new to the book and those whose lives it has touched for “that which can be imagined can never be lost.” Expect this to sell out in its entirety. Well done, Earthling.
