Yay, another collection of zombie stories. Now don’t get me wrong, I love the cavorting cadavers, I really do. I was a zombie guy before it was cool and everyone else was into misunderstood, pretty boy vampires. Hmm, funny how some things never change. But whatever, the point I was going for before getting sidetracked was that as big an undeadhead as I am, the zombie thing is starting to get a little stiff and stale, even with me.
That said, it is nice to see someone trying to do something new with the flesh eaters and Through the Eyes… does take things in a new direction. That direction being a literal interpretation of the title as all stories in this book are told from the zombies’ point of view.
This anthology collects 31 stories from a bunch of authors who might not be household names yet, but hopefully this book will get them on the path to becoming so. Now to be sure, not every story here is a winner. In fact there were a few that I just plain didn’t like. But the good far outweigh the bad here and that’s more than can be said about a lot of anthologies.
If I did have one gripe with the book was that too many stories felt similar. Now I don’t know if that’s just to be expected from a book where all the protagonists are the walking dead, I mean they’re not known for their personality, but a bit more variety would have been welcome. However I did enjoy the book quite a lot. If you’re a die hard undeadhead like me and you’re looking for something a little different, then Through the Eyes of the Undead will fulfill your cravings nicely.
