- It's Christmas Eve
It's late and I'm the only one up tonight. It's chilly outside and so cloudy that the darkness seems absolute, except for the battery operated candles in the windows at my neighbor's house across the street that flicker predictably. And though I'm the only one awake, the house isn't quiet. The pipes that bring the warmth to the house tick occasionally, and every once in a while the either the floor or the walls shudder with a sound that is above a whisper but quieter than a groan. I think I even heard a mouse earlier scrambling behind a wall where we have the Christmas tree.

Merry Christmas! We are celebrating one day early, due to visiting schedules. Our family is coming over today so my wife and I arbitrarily decided to open our gifts one day early.
Rationalization. You've got to love it.
So today - for me - is Christmas. I'm just killing a little time on the keyboard before my wife wakes up.
My BIG gift is we've laid out plans for a new library. Our 21 year old moved out last year and cleared out his room in October. We're looking at laying a new floor in his room, installing bookshelves and building ourselves a much-needed library. I've always wanted one.
And finally - my wife MAY have bought me a Kindle. She recieved a mysterious delivery from a courier last week and has kept me on pins and needles all week long.
Here's hoping...
So Merry Christmas to everyone here!

I'm sitting here trying to work but my little guy is having none of that. He just had a spell of the cat crazies where he runs through the house like a lunatic, howling and meowing at the ceiling. He finally calmed down and curled up on my lap trapping my left arm so I can only type with one hand (shut up 'Dude). Takes forever to do anything!

Got some kickass gifts - but, alas, I was wrong about the Kindle. Turned out to be a mug that she ordered from the US.
My big gift turned out to be a new chair - a big old recliner. We are going shopping for it during the post-Christmas sales. I can't wait. My back is really aching these days - especially after snow shovelling - and a new chair will really fix me up.
Oh, and the library too.
So, even though I had my Christmas early I'm getting my gifts late.
Still, I had rum and egg nog and homemade truffles and peanut butter balls while watching the new Planet of the Apes flick on dvd. The turkey is just being served up now and I'll be eating big for the next hour or so - followed by a rousing round of Munchkin.

Destined to be another quiet one for us, which is fine by me.
I'm trying to persuade husband to watch back to back dvds of Alien and Aliens, tonight, but don't think he'll go for it. Might have to be more episodes of Flight of the Conchords, instead.
And hey, this is my first Christmas/Holiday with you guys, thanks for making me so welcome, and I wish you all the best for the season.
You have a great holiday Janet! (I do like the way you prefer to celebrate ). And hopefully, we'll wrangle a visit from you (and your hubby) to Necon this year.

And a special thank-you to Tony, Nanci, Chris, and Dave. You all know why.
We celebrated Christmas with Kellie's family today. Kellie, Emma and I will be at home together tomorrow morning, then head over to my parents' around lunchtime. Monday we're driving down to my grandparents' a couple hours away. In other words, Emma is going to make out like a bandit this weekend.
Oh, and the highlight from today; a strange dog showed up on Kellie's parents' property (they live on 10 acres) and came up on the back porch. It was a rottweiller, and Emma kept looking at it through the back sliding glass door. After a while, as it turned to leave, Emma looked up at me and said, "Daddy, that dog has a hole in his bottom!!" Very observant, my daughter is.
We opened presents this evening and I am one incredulous and happy camper. My son bought us a Blu Ray player and it came with a stereo speaker set. He also bought us (me) the movie Insidious. I am absolutely amazed by the quality on this c.d. player and the sound is like we are at the movies.
And Insidious was incredible, I can't count how many times it made me jump. I was not happy with the last two minutes though, but all and all, I would highly recommend this movie.
It's christmas morning, people are still asleep... so i'm doing laundry (this is like the only day off i've had in the last five and for the next four!!) and i'm drinking coffee out of my new Lego Mug... no not a mug made out of legos but one with their logo... we have plans for a big breakfast, then gifts for the immediate family... then i'll be out for the afternoon with other family, and by the time i get back here the house will be full again with people looking for dinner. Should be a busy day.
Wife is at work. We'll be celebrating later today. Dog is sleeping in the sunlight. Spent an hour and a half playing with her, throwing her stuffed monkey (which I will have to stitch up again) and chasing her around the house. Now I can finish cleaning the house and getting things ready for dinner.

Merry Chrimbo everybody.
Best present this year--The Ladies of Star Wars playing cards. Happy to see Leia in her bikini. Not so happy to see Aunt Beru in hers. :-/
Fairytale of New York by The Pogues is my favorite Xmas song, but didn't hear it on the radio today, so this will have to do. I dedicate it to everyone at the Cellar. Enjoy your day, everyone. http://youtu.be/Pv0hlbWpa1w
Other than the blue ray player we got from my son, I got a bathrobe, new slippers, and enough beef jerky to last me a month if I eat some every day. I'm not complaining, I like beef jerky. It was just our family today, the four of us, and we laughed a lot...that was the best gift of all.

Had a great day, kids were spoilt by my family.
I got Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry on blu-ray. I got a gift card for some Jays tickets. I also got a Luke Skywalker light up lightsaber. Makes the noises and everything.
And yes, men never really grow up.

Two John Shirley novels, Wetbones (remastered) and Outlands tie-in. And a Chargers calendar. The wife got a wine gift basket, a pocket calendar, and a coffee sampler. My mom got new dishes and silverware plus a pocket calendar of shih tzu puppies. The dogs got spoiled. Lots of new squeekies for them.

Had some good friends over for dinner. I wasn't too happy with the way dinner turned out - you would think that after 15 months I would be used to the stoopid electric stove - but everyone said the food was good. We got a new light for the front hallway, a floor steam cleaner, new silverware, some books, these really cool drinking glasses and I watched The Expedables which I'm so buying a copy of. Brainless fun. I really loved it!!

We had the kids over for Christmas Eve. Watched the new Planet of the Apes movie on dvd, ate a lot, played a couple of rounds of Password as well as Pictionary. Belinda and I finished off Christmas Eve alone, watching that great horror movie Splice.
Then, on Christmas night Belinda and I celebrated quietly by stomping through the first two movies of the Lord of the Rings, followed by a very disappointing Doctor Who Christmas episode.
Tonight we'll watch the third LOTR flick followed by Fear Factor.
Tomorrow the local comic book store is having a HUGE 50% off everything sale and I'm going to be there!
(or at least that's the plan)
